The Mega Item // Equipment Stat Revision Thread [FEEDBACK REQUIRED]

Saxons have always been the bastard faction in Vikingr. As developers, we have found them incredibly difficult to balance out against the other three factions despite the vast incomplete nature of the mod. Due to continual community effort [thanks chaps!] and discussion on the subject of items and equipments, we are now taking into serious consideration the complete revision and overhaul of items in Vikingr.

What follows is a suggested, work in progress, think-tank kind-of-thing for a selection of Saxon equipment. Tunics and the such will not be included here given the minimal protection that they shall provide. However, all maille armours and weapons will feature in this list. The presence of numbers and stats are always subject to change, these are ballpark figures to play around with. The idea is that we provide good reason in the wearing of maille and even out the playing field with regards to weapon choice [aka the infamous-let's-all-choose-trondr-axe] mode.  :razz: Maille is to be relatively heavy in comparison to lighter garments. Yes, we know that it is not particularly heavy or cumbersome in real-life but Warband is a simple engine. There's only so much we can do before summoning the script wizards. Being ninja'd by jumping maille-coat users wielding multiple hedmark axes is not fun.  We will use the finalised Saxon stats as a template for the other factions.

General note: Weight increased over the board of the axes, speed rating lowered by no more than four points for the largest Hedmark axe. Damage increased somewhat to compensate. Length remains. Cost has been increased for all axes however similarity remains between the two lowest, the more expensive of these two has slightly superior range and damage yet gives up on speed.




One Handed Axes [ALL One-Handed Axes, Factional Included]

General note: The reshuffle behind axes sits on one point, a realistic depiction of head and blade size in relation to the shaft length. We really wish to address the problem of the mass-trondr//war-axe use [or mis-use :razz: ] ... All axes ought have their own character, with no singular axe proving to be superior to all others. Think of this balance as one akin to that of the Norman horses. There is to be slight deviations in each axe but not enough to automatically prove a singular superior weapon of choice. The user is thus free to make their own choice entirely out of free will and not be constrained by stats.

Oui. I've been playing around with it this evening... Moving around in maille feels quite substantial now, even more so when equipment is piled on.  :razz: It should put a grinding halt to Warband's ridiculous slashy-moving-slashy tactics.

So... Basically this would mean that berserkers would get an enormour advantage for their speed, right? How about get rid of their increased running speed (but keep the Power Strike skill as is) and set it to the level of normal troops, now that the regular guys are being hampered by armor so much?  :razz:

I think something like this could also give Chaos (and like-minded individuals) some satisfaction, seeing as he hates the berserker class' speed so much.  :lol: Of course it still doesn't affect the fact that you can hit someone with the dane axe's shaft and deal loads of damage, though the speed reduction might affect that (even though the damage increase has a somewhat negative effect on it, oui?)

I don't quite get why Berserkers should move faster than anyone, as a matter of fact. All it does is encourage utterly absurd stepping in and out of range fighting (especially with two handers), who I'm pretty sure are meant to simply be the first ones into battle and last ones out. The only person I've seen using the class as something other than a backstabbing runner is Mitchell. But then, he'll do it with absolutely any class. :smile:

PS : In case you didn't get the obvious sarcasm, I'll let you know first hand I'm the person who supported Eirikur the most in his leave of absence to sort out his life and tried my best for him not to leave completely, and even helped him deleting his forum account, and didn't get mad at him for abandoning us.

Second: Short message due to being in bed and using the phone but... Do not worry about the bersekr, this is the beginning of an entire rebalance. All will be addressed by the end of the day. I'd quite like to see a patch out with revised changes by the end of the day. :wink:
 
If you're going to decrease moving speed of armored oponements, you may also want to tweak the archer's speed a little, otherwise it would just encourage archers to run across the map if followed by someone armored, thus probaly irritating the other 10 people who are dead and have to wait for the archer to finally run out of arrows and melee.
 
Why are all axes slower then they were? Used to be speed from 98-95 now it is 95-94. This together with the increased weight makes everything much slower (I imagine). Is this what you want?

One handed Hedmarks Axe is smuch shorter then the Battle Axe, yet the same speed! (small damage difference doesn't really matter much)

Mammen Axe seems a bit too good for its price. Compare to the One Handed Hedmarks Axe for example.

Compare the Broad Axe to the Mammen Axe. No reason to take the Broad Axe. Compared to the One Handed Hedgemark Axe it seems ok though.

Edit: Ignore gold prices right now. We'll look at those last once stats are fine.
