I love this book. I got it last week and haven't put it down. Anyone else read it?

Well take that priority list and throw it in a pit of partially retarded gibbons! This book is awesome!

So you're expecting me to throw ASoIaF off the list in favour of a Zombie Survival Guide?

Sigh
Just leave him be, we'll see who's laughing when the time comes.

Its good, but unfortunately off in a few places.  For instance, he has the typical japanophile love for the katana and he disdains plate armor as far too heavy, both of which I disagree with.  Likewise, I've heard his characterization of guns is a bit off as well, but other than that, its an excellent read.  World War Z is also a lot of fun.

The guy living in tricky mountain areas where zombies have no way of ascending in numbers that can harm me in any way - or you city slicks?
I'm living in the center of Pittsburgh, so in the event of a zombie incursion, my position is untenable.  Fun fact, I'm also about a 15 minute drive from the mall where they filmed Dawn of the Dead.

Bah, cities are the most easily defended place against zombies. Every building that has a lockable door between the first floor and the ground floor is an impenetrable fortress, seeing as zombies are too stupid to use tools and too rotten to be able to bash the door open with their bare hands.

You, sir, are a dead man.  How are they going to be rotten if they are immediately risen?  The sheer numbers would make such a place impossible to defend, and the chaos after news spread would result in thousands dying on the roads.  That said, I do know where I would run to and how I would secure my position.  The problem would be the lack of food and water in the area, so I could only maintain my fortress for a few days if the water gets cut.  Simply put, I don't think a zombie is going to get up forty stories, and if they do, a ladder is available.  If for some reason I cannot get that high, there is a position through a window that I could defend for a long time, seeing as how you have to crawl to get through it, exposing the back of the skull.  Again, however, food and water are the two problems.

Oh, also fun, there is a game of Humans vs. Zombies starting at my school in two days.

Edit:  You have a point about defensible areas, though.  Cities are an excellent place for a stand, provided you don't get mobbed by desperate survivors, which is not an issue in other places.

^ really knows his stuff. ^^ has a point about cities having a more readily available source of water. In a city, you can fill a sink of bathtub with water and live off of that for about a week or two. Also, cities would have more weapons in the form of tools and what-not.

Cities would also have more zombies, there being a higher concentration of population there.

Oil Rig is probably the best bet. No way any zombie is going to get to one of those.

Yeah. Don't get me started on his mistakes with the flamethrower...

And I suppose you  can break down a door with your bare hands? One that's on top of a staircase, I might add, and which you therefore can't throw your weight against by running? Numbers mean very little, as most staircases are only wide enough for two people to go abreast, three at max, so it makes no difference how many there are. Water isn't really a problem if you're in a building with a wide, flat roof, since in that case you can collect rainwater. It may not be very clean, but definitely more healthy than trying to go out to fetch some bottled water. I'd be more worried about food supplies. Do you think it's possible to be zombified from eating zombie flesh, or does it happen only when bitten?

The zombie virus is only communicable through somehow getting diseased material into your body. So eating the meat would kill you. Or rather, undeadify you.

No. The virus is incurable. I don't think it would work, but you can go ahead. I will be standing by with the shotgun leveled at your head.

Boiling people isn't usually considered to be an effective treatment so the fact that it's incurable doesn't necessarily mean that infected flesh can't be made edible. It's a good thing I own a dog so I have something to test it on. Though if it doesn't turn out to be viable, the food supply problem still remains.

You could slowly eat yourself. Thats always my backup plan.

With enough time, no fatigue, and no pain, yes, I could eventually batter down a door.

Arch comes to the same conclusion that the book does, that an oil rig is by far the best possible location to flee to.
