A combat missions game? Hm, alright)
Background: Niceland has during the last decade discovered large deposits of natural chocolate in the Terra Chocolata region. This currently loosely administered and poor region has historically close ties to neighbouring Badland and has a large minority of ethnic Badlanders. Old tensions between the states Badland and Niceland over the region have because of this intensified. Within the region, ethnic Badlanders have up till recently largely welcomed Nicelandic engineers, preferring to take part in peaceful economic development within Niceland over risking conflict.
The situation changed three weeks ago. Fearing sabotage by radical, local Badlanders or special operations forces of the Badlandic state, Nicelandic armed forces have accompanied the engineers in their construction of chocolate mining facilities. Radical nationalist tendencies in the Nicelandic armed forces have led to harassment of local Badlanders. Officers and soldiers apparently acting on their own initiative have denied Badlanders to work in the construction and unnecessarily expropriated CD players and cartoon magazines. This rapidly led to tensions within the region, with local Badlanders echoing the Badlandic state's demand for a border adjustment, putting much of the chocolate deposits on the Badlandic side of the border. The government of Niceland has repeatedly reprimanded its own armed forces for their conduct, but firmly rejected any compromise regarding the chocolate deposits.
One week ago, Nicelandic soldiers broke into Badlandic tribal leader Herman Heinzelnisse's house, stole his favourite bicycle, and drew a mustache on his beautiful daughter's face. When the news of this spread, Badlandic tribes within the Terra Chocolata region rallied under Herman Heinzelnisse in armed revolt. The Badlandic government decided to intervene, and sent armed forces across the border to link up with the rebels. Numerous engagements with losses on both sides have been reported, and both governments have ordered a general mobilization. Armed forces present in the region fight for control of main transportation routes and chocolates.
Own forces: You are Nicelandic captain Wurzelpeter, commander of a bicycle-mounted infantry company tasked with taking a village used as a stronghold by local Badlanders. Your company consists of the following: Three rifle platoons, each with three rifle squads of ten men each and a light mortar. One machinegun platoon, with four heavy machineguns. In addition, you have command of an artillery observer (also bicycle-mounted) who can call for indirect fire from nearby artillery units (one medium mortar battery, one light howitzer battery), and a horse-mounted reconnaissance platoon of three reconnaissance squads of eight men each.
Enemy forces: There are probably around forty armed local Badlanders in the area, either in the village or near it, under the leadership of Kartoffelkönig Karl, a tribal leader. These typically have few heavy weapons, but are said to be stubborn. Badlandic armed forces are not in the immediate vicinity, but are expected to send reinforcements if they perceive the village is seriously threatened. This will probably be mobile forces, such as cavalry or your own bicycle-mounted infantry, in the size of a platoon or a company.
Landscape: The landscape mostly consists of gentle hills covered in sparse forest. Around the village, and some kilometres to the north and south, the forest has been cleared to make room for potato acres. Four roads lead out of the village, to the north, east, south and west. Your company is positioned five kilometres to the east. Badlandic armed forces are said to be located ten to twenty kilometres to the north and west. One kilometre south of the village, atop a dominating hill, is a church.
Mission: Primarily, your mission is to take the village and its immediate vicinity. Secondarily, it is to capture Kartoffelkönig Karl alive and inflict casaulties on local Badlanders and Badlandic armed forces.
Administation and supply: Your soldiers probably carry enough ammunition to take the village and defend it for long enough, but do not use it excessively. Your supporting artillery units (medium mortar battery, light howitzer battery) have much ammunition, but has to split it between several attacks. For medical evacuation, you must first get your wounded to your current assembly area five kilometres east of the village. Your bicycles are well oiled and should not need further maintenance for some days. If taking the village proves too difficult, you will likely not receive reinforcements and should cancel the attack, but if you have already taken it, you might get reinforcements to help defend it if necessary.
So, what are your orders, captain?
