Zendar ?

I just wonder if it is possible to do something more of Zendar, like when the Duke is there, he will be bitten by the grandeur fly and consequently wants to dominate the world, either by trading or by war. Not very well thought out I´m afraid, but I guess you will get my drift ? Anyway, a neutral town has a lot of possibilities of wrecking havoc with a lot of things... In a sneaky way I would guess...
I also wonder if it is possible to have towns that specialize in certain armor/weapons...

It's unclear what sort of military Zendar has. I assume its defenses are pretty formidable, but in every measurable respect, its army is miniscule compared to that of the Vaegirs and Swadians. In short, they're able to survive by NOT picking a fight with anyone, just like stubbornly neutral countries in the real world.

Even more mysterious is the number of the Khergit raiders who seemed to have arrived only 800 days ago from the East.

As you know, the four scouts I sent East did not return.

I always saw Zendar as strictly a trading city, with town guards more for descouraging theives than invaders. Zendar could be made like Switzerland though, Switzerland has (I believe) always been a neutral country, but used to be famous for it's mercenaries. The Pope still has his Swiss guards, only now they're just for decorations (exceopt for the on's in suits with submachine guns who you don't see)

Well, they definitely seem to be a trading power, but sandwiched between two powerful and warlike nations, they'd need a fairly strong military to safeguard their neutrality. But we certainly shouldn't assume their military consists of low level units simply because those are the only ones you can recruit. You can only hire equivalent units from the Swadians and Vaegirs, but look at what they can level up into. I'd assume they have a force of NOT hired blades at their disposal. Archers too, if only because what else are you going to man those big impressive, city walls with?

Maybe Zendar hasn't got a large military, instead they're city is impenetrable. Maybe its cited on a extremely steep slope, backed onto a cliff.

Nobodys going to be able to take it without knocking down a few walls, and maybe it has no significance apart from its walls....no point wasting many lives and months besieging a city when the thing that made it so formidable (the walls) are knocked down.

Maybe it as some kind of significance to both sides that attacking it would be a form of desecration.....

Swadians have tried to liberate Zendar nearly as many times as Vaegir scum have tried to pillage it.

Truth be told, the troops get confused when they see a fully-rendered city and give up.

WE HAVE NOT.....YOU ARE THE ONES MAKING CHAOS!!!

Zendar is a thugtown as well as a tradecity.

Manhunters, mercenaries and hired blades (just like the others can advance so can Watchmen and those are it)... Pleasant crowd for a protective force. But they are there and they do it well enough. I find Mercenaries are quite good whenever I have them in my party.
