MERCHANT CARAVAN (when trading and collecting bandit prisoners/loot during peacetime; rescue missions; raiding bandit lairs, etc.)

Cavalry Group (20 total):
1 Khergit Veteran Horse Archer
1 Sword Sister
1 Khergit Lancer
1 Sarranid Mamluke
1 Vaegir Knight
1 Swadian Knight
5 Slaver Chiefs
Myself + 8 Companions

8 Companions:
Knights:
Alayen and Firentis (elite vaegir and plate armor, shields, chargers, lances, long arming swords and two-handed mace or heavy hammer. I group these two seperately and tell them to use their maces/hammers when I want prisoners.)
Horse Archer:
Baheshtur (elite khergit armor, heavy hunter, elite scimitar, steel shield, masterwork khergit bow)
Skilled Companions:
Bunduk (max tactics, training, and engineer: cuir bouli, board shield, military pick, masterwork light crossbow - switch to seige crossbow when on foot - heavy courser)
Klethi (max looting. short arming sword, throwing spears, throwing knives, elite cavalry shield, sarranid guard armor, black hood, courser - she's fast)
Deshavi (max tracking, spotting, and pathfinding. since she's kind of Nord, I gave her scale armor, huscarl's round shield, nordic war sword, and long bow; heavy hunter)
Ymira (max trade. brigandine, arming sword, horseman's heater, masterwork hunting bow, hunter)
Jeremus (max wound treatment, first aid, and surgery. I keep him in his pilgrim's gear with a heavy steppe horse, quarterstaff, shield, mace and stones - as a doctor he doesn't really want to hurt anybody - and tell him to follow me or stand safely behind a hill in combat)

Me (Knight in mail on heavy charger; shield + lance, bastard sword and winged mace, unless seiging, where it's shield, bastard sword and war bow, or fighting horsemen like khergits or steppe bandits, when it's lance, shield, warbow and heavy hunter)

well i used to have 50+ Vaegir/Swadian Knights and could kill almost anything with that. if a larger army apeared i simply filled my army up to max with whatever i had in a nearby castle to even the odds a bit. once took out 680 Nords with such an army of 102 men :p

however this gets boring real fast, so now i go for

20 fast cavalry consisting of companions and sword sisters to kill off big threats fast
30-40 archers, prefarrably Vaegir Marksmen
and some infantry. Nord Huscarls or Swadian Sergeants to protect the archers from cav

this way i have to use a bit more strategy than just charge and destroy

for hunting bandits and escorting caravans i only use the 20 or so cavalry for fast battles

currently rolling with 50 mounted infantry, 30 archers, about 20 cavalry and 8 companion. Flexibility means I can do anything to anyone and pretty much get away with it.

8 Companions, all on horse with 1h or 2h with heavy cavalary horses
20 Knights/Men at Arms
30 20 Huscarls
20 Nord Veterans
40 others in training / fodder

I like sharpshooters, but i'd rather have 50 Huscarls throwing a wall of axes then charging, and having my calvary sandwich from behind, the devastation is fast and furious.

I have to throw in with Mr. Huscarl and his Huscarl buddies.  No unit in the game gives the same BANG for your buck in EVERY situation.  From my experience they're the best seige unit available on offense or Defense, and are exceptional for throwing back the enemy in field battles.  I typically field a few archers (about 20%) just to harrass enemy cav as they approach or demolition of lighter forces that don't have bulletproof shields.  Against the Rhodok I dump archers altogether.

MORE HUSCARL!

I beg to differ, an army of clones of myself would fare a lot better

Nah j/k in my new game i am sticking with swadian knights.

Normally i run around with
40 Huscarls
45 Rhodock Sharpshooters
15 Sarranid Mamlukes
15 Swadian Knights
6 Companions
Artmimenner
Deshavi
Marnid
Ymira
Bunduk
Katrin
Nizar

And for wartime or seiges
120 huscarls >

huscarls ftw

I have all 16 companions, level 25, full armor, good weapons. Just the Magnificent 7(teen) and we can whip any army of 200. Only on an offensive siege do I take sharpshooters and Huscarles.

Wartime Army

60 rhodok sharpshooters
20 Sergeants rhodok and or swad
companions
0-15 mamalukes
0-20 huscarls

in the end sharpshooter massing is cheep (for a top tiered unit that is) and extremely effective I rarely loose a single soldier going against armies twice my size as long as I focus on command and you can beat armies 3 times as big or more (ive done 12 to 1 odds) with minimal losses all while in a mainly foot soldier army

peacetime
me and my companions

Currently this is my setup.

15 Swadian Knights
Alayen on Warhorse as cavalry
Ferentis on Warhorse as cavalry

50 Swadian Sergeants
Klethi with one handed battle axe and shield

25 Swadian Sharpshooters
Bunduk with Crossbow
Jerasmus with Crossbow
Ymira with Crossbow
Deshavi with Bow
Barthestur with bow on Horse as archer

Umm

30 Swadian Knights
10 Mamlukes
20 V Khergit Horse Archers
10 Companions with heavy blunt weapons
