In both Total War and M&B games it's always been a complaint of mine that an army's size or type didn't have any visual effect. This exists to some extent, caravans for example have a different icon on the map which is, well, a caravan. For armies however, we only see their leaders and don't get a hint of the army's size or might. Maybe it's because I've always been fascinated by armies marching in an organized manner looking something like this:

Very basic, but I just love it, those polearms and pikes just look awesome.

Anyways I believe this would add a lot for immersion and characterization of an army.

Edit: Here are some more images just because

You're partially mistaken though. What you have is a party. Armies, which are gatherings of parties, do get icons depending on their size. The more parties are in an army, the the bigger the icon on the map.

It's still single lords and not an idication of an "army", and the icons depend on how many lords there are in the "army" not how many soldiers or other personnel or equipment.
And don't get me started on the whole gathering an army mechanic, ugh it's a disgrace, makes me question wheter any thought was put into it ..

Might be a little OT but could you elaborate on this? Why do you think it's a disgrace? What should replace it?

I voted "Could be considered". I like the idea, but it could make it hard to distinguish actual armies from big parties so it could wind up being confusing. It would have to be well designed to make sure armies still stand out on the map.

How quickly have you forgot how you used to play Warband? It's the banners of course, a war party which only has one commander carries the banner of that commander, simple enough, no? But that would probably require banners being at least slightly memorable. Right now they're extremely forgettable and look like they've been randomly generated.

As an addition, how about marching songs? It could increase morale, or a battle chant could even temporarily increase map speed, at the cost of reducing it once the effects wore off. Hearing those chants as you chase the enemy on the map would be the coolest thing ever.

the hell am i saying
