So I heard that if you start your own faction, there is no way to keep your lords happy. Any truth to this? Curious because I don't want to go down the Kingdom Path if all my lords are going to hate me and ruin the play through.

Very true, and even after managing to get married, she absolutely refuses to have kids. O_O; The struggle is real.
Don't create your own kingdom yet. I don't see a way to hold other clans. You cannot get positive relationship points by assigning towns/castles. Managed to get +17 by supporting the clan and 5 minutes later it was at -75 and left quickly.
That is exactly what I wanted to know. Doesn't seem worth it until they get some sort of system in place to make relationship building actually work well.
