Recruit
what is your opinion ? taking prisoners and selling them for money ? i mean i have 2 point in prisoner management and i cant really make money with prisoners ^^ so i need more points in that skill. but is it waste ? in your opinion.

The money is definitely worth the effort, especially in the early game. I recruit khergit tribesmen who are armed with clubs and then attack looters. Dont upgrade your troops beyond skirmishers though.

Depends on your playstyle, there are alternate ways to make a lot of money. I myself never use it, I find the skill point investment not worth it, I can make hundreds of thousands without investing any points for that purpose. Do it if you like the gamestyle, else don't.

Be an honest merchant?

Trading is the most profitable thing in the game, then looting (Big lord parties, Sea Raiders etc) then Ransoming and then Questing, imho. Ransoming is good if you can grab some Sea Raiders, high tier units, and some other bandits such as Steppe or Desert. I find I can make more money over a short time by ransoming and looting. Slaver Chiefs ftw. Also, why be an honest merchant when you can be a slave trader?

Trading is of course more profitable than selling prisoners. I do take prisoners, but only for another small source of income. Every little bit helps!

Going slaver, on higher levels, can really rake in the cash - with 5 prisoner management skill and a bunch of troops from the manhunter line you can be making thousands every time you offload your prisoners. Even if you just sell to Ramun that's a flat 1250 denars for a moderate-sized battle. I'm not sure, but I don't think trade is that consistently lucrative.

Depends on how much / what / where you trade. Buying iron in Curaw and selling it in any town that's short on iron is more lucrative than buying flax in Sargoth and selling it in a town that doesn't need any.

And manhunters are hard to get. Only by defeating bandit groups you get a few every time, but that's all.

You could blow up Manhunter and Bandit parties in TweakMB like I do, so they can have up to about 150 men, and Bandits 200. Makes getting Manhunters very easy for me

Getting manhunters is not that difficult. I've had as many as 85 in my party.

First, my English is not perfect.
My char can take up to 30 prisoners. There are many things you can do with them. You can sell them and get a lot of many. You can recruit them, this is also important. Another thing is recruit them and put them in your castles and cities, i think they don't escape, which sometimes happen if you put them in your party. So IMO its useful to put point in Prisoner Mgt.

The thing that i don't know is the reason to put the prisoners in a caste or city, since you cant ransom them...unless the game puts the sold prisoners available in fiefs...i dont know..

You can put them there if you don't need the money at the time. That way, if you need quick money, you can just ransom some of them.

That was from an earlier game from which I have no saves, but if you don't believe me, bite me.
You would like that wouldn't you.

I take prisoners whenever it's convenient. It doesn't profit me as much as some things, but a couple extra thousand denars every once in a while in addition to my numerous businesses is always welcome.

Current save: Caliph Trondur, Sarranid Sultanate, day four hundred fitfy-something, level 32.
Running on Diplomacy and PBOD + my troop tree.
17 CHA, 18 INT, 15 STR and AGI.
Mameluke/General/Tactician&Trainer sort of build.

I have only two fiefs, a village and a castle, yet this is the richest and most militarily powerful character I've made yet. I built up his wealth with trade, invested in solid businesses, and fought to level up while making use of any opportunity to gain gold which presented itself. I find tolling enemy caravans is quicker and less hassling than just attacking them. I get from 150 to 700 gold per one, Depending on how large my party is at the time.

I have 150K in gold stored, and I can only see it rising. The revenues from my businesses give me profit hand over fist above the weekly pay of my 300 or so troops, most of which are elite.

Sounds like a pretty solid character to me.

Yes, he is.
Sometimes I go on little 'Lord Hunting' trips where I literally hunt enemy lords with a band of heavy cavalry. I never have to worry about people besieging my castle because there's always over 100 Rhodok crossbowmen there, as well as my Huscarls, Guards, and Sergeants.

I enjoy taking prisoners and hauling them to my prison castle for torture. If I ever happen to be on a merciful mood or in a dire need of gold, I've a meeting scheduled with Ramun.
