Your Favorite Classic Games

Look no further than to www.the-underdogs.org/forum for a retro gaming discussion.

I still play those little pre 95 gems fairly regularly:

EGA
Gold of the Americas (quickie, takes 30 minutes or so to play through). Colonize the Americas, exploit your citizens and introduce slavery:smile:
Revolution 76: Guide USA to indepencence. Almost as fast as GoA
No Greater Glory. ACW game from the maker of Revolution 76. Slow and emphasize logistics.
Sword of the Samurai: One of few old action type games that still is playable. No speed issues or such. Become shogun of medieval Japan:smile:

VGA
Master of Magic: Fantasy strategy game. By many considered the best game ever, I find that it has too much micromanagement.
Colonization: Fun civ clone, but too much micromanagement towards the end.
Master of Orion I: Ultra cool space strategy game:smile:

All the VGA games and Sword of the Samurai were made by Microprose, what a striking coincidence...

But the BEST old game I've played was on the Amiga. Supercars II against a friend after a few grogs. It's a pity my only Amiga-owning friend got married and left Sweden for sunny California...

My favorite classic PC games are the first I played as a teenager: the first Sid Meier's Civilization, and also X-Com: Ufo Defense.

When I look back at the old-school graphics and gameplay I smile with nostalgia: something so elemental and yet so much fun.

X-Com still brings back memories of that sudden shock on seeing my troopers fall under enemy mind control, or the horror of dead troopers becoming zombielike monsters and the fun of defending my base against an alien assault. Cool stuff for me.

I also like Fallout and Jagged Alliance and System Shock 2.

Not having owned a computer capable of playing games until about 4 years ago(kinda hard to run games on a 386 with 4mb ram  ), mine are all console based. Just about anything made by KOEI for snes, like Civilization, Uncharted Waters, P.T.O, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, etc. Also a few for nes, like Willow, Silent Service, and The Lone Ranger(AMAZING game for its day btw.. top view shooter, side scroller, first person using the nes gun all rolled into one).

the old command&conquer games where great. I spent so much time playing red alert in my youth... it was great

my favorite classic is definatly the Ultima series its lasted more than 20 years lol although the singleplayer games ended with ultima 9(Ultima 10 was canceled when Lord British left the team) there is Still Ultima online (UO) although it used to be a good MMORPG(until AoS) its bad now so consider the Ultima series gone i mean UO itself has lated 8 years now lol alsthough only about 5 1/2 were good still its the longest lasting MMORPG but i consider it dead(it was also pretty mcuh the first graphical one) now RV(Roma-victor) is going to take over i bet. www.roma-victor.com

also for all you guys that like games on the old nintendos and stuff... http://www.consoleclassix.com/ it ahs most NES, SNES, Atrai, Genesis, and Gameboy games and the NES and Atari are FREE! its really fun playing games that you thought you would never see again for free on your PC.

i bet i just made everyone wh posted in here happy LOL (i suggest playing Destiny of an Emperor for NES on it its the same stroyline as dynasty warriors.

An absolute-must-play etc..
A classic that is. There is golden axe 2 too. It is great but does not have the nostalgic effects on me and has some grpahical tweaks. But you may like the second one better since you didn't play the first when you were a tiny little child :p

You can find it in mame format

Golden Axe

oh god, that was so great (well golden Axe II at least, that was the one I had)

some games I suddenly remember because of this thread:

revenge of shinobi: I never got to finnish this game, Everytime I had to fight the end boss, either my ninja got killed, or the girlfriend he was suposed to rescue.

shaddow...something (can't remember the name): the shinobi guy, but now was acompanied by a white dog. mannaged to kill the end boss once.

Populous: my friend once rented this from the video store for his snes. loved that game.

Centurio: for pc the first strategy game I ever played, verry addictive. there was an option of negotiating alliances with the other nations, and if you succeeded in talking cleopatra into allying with you, you could end up in bed with her (if you said the right lines) that succeeded once

Larry: and his great quest to get laid, that was a brilliant game

Herzog Zwei IMO one of the coolest games ever for the sega megadrive. the only strategy game I was more addicted to was Red Alert

EDIT:

can't believe I forgot about
Civilization: my friends and I used to play this non stop, 6 of us, sitting behind that one geeky friend we all had, who was the only guy you knew, that had a pc, and you and your friends would hang out with him even tough none of you liked him. while he was doing the moves and controling the game, the 6 of us would tell him what to do, what to build, what to train, come up with war strategies etc...
