You are not at war but you take their castles

I currently play as Swadian and was at war with Khergits. Peace was made. I missed that and attacked a Khergit lord by mistake (stupid and blind me). I could not manage to get my relations with Khergits to 0 again and they kept on attacking me, so after some time I started to fight them back in a kind of "personal war".

And I found a funny thing - once I take their castle and the king grants it to another lord, the Khergits do not try to get it back, as they are at peace with Swadia. They do besiege my castles because they hate me, but they leave other Swadian lords alone (in their new castles).
The result is that soon all Khergit castles will belong to Swadia while the factions remain in peace

What do you think about that?

Yeah, I guess so. It is difficult to say, however how it should be solved. The factions are at peace, quite normal  Nothing can stop me if I want to besiege a castle, so I do. The king does not have to grant the castle to me.

What solution then?
1. it would be impossible for the PC to attack the faction that his faction is not at war with? (no "private wars")
2. the king would have to grant the PC the castle he took if the factions are not at war. Then the former owners could try to take it back? ("private wars" allowed without the faction to get involved)
3. should the king decide to make PC give the castle back to the former owner (and if PC refuses becomes a rebel) or to keep the castle starting a war automatically? ("private wars" results depend on king's decision)

The last one seems to be most "real world" solution.

Still wonder if you use this to your faction avail. And what do you think should be correct solution for this inconsistency.

Definately the best way. I like that Idea. And it would depend on relation to that faction, how many are at war with your faction, relation to king, etc.

Sounds good.

Agrees

It seemed to me the most reasonable, too.

I am still very curious if you ever tried to use this strange possibility to perform a war during peace. Anyone?

second that.

A curiosity - I`m in a personal war with Swadians. Took a castle they took from Nords. The king gave it to me despite my low renown; in the next couple of weeks I gathered frantically an army for garrison, got about 250 and then Swadians besieged with approx 450. Lost the battle(100 of mine survived though) but the Swads didn`t take the castle  I feel weird because of that, but now my troops number a total of approx. 400, more than 300 in the castle, all Vaegir missile troops at different levels  I`m in the process of picking apart a Nord invasion force lord by lord with a band of marksmen, while everyone else guards the castle

Did you enlarge the battlesizer? otherwise even marksmen can have a hard time against nords
battlesizer is at 200.
I never got it on how to make em that high...how do you do that?
download and install the battlesizer. once you run it, you can set the numbers, although at 200 it will warn you about your comp possibly crashing because of that.
don`t know where exactly it is; Swadius has a link to it in his sig.
