HUNTING

We definetly need hunting, im getting suck of buying food. I wanna hunt my food. And a recent topic was talking about surgeons and other specialists. I want to hire some hunters and go have a blast in some nice pasture with wild wolves, deer, and whatever else lives in there, hell, even squirrel would rule.

imagine trying to fight some bears? hehe, it shoudl take quite a few arrows to bring them down, make it sporty too.

I give you the broken record award.

You realize this will most likely be moddable. Use a different character model for the 'creature', switch it as a spawn point for smaller groups (5 deer), and make their salvage = food.

And furs.

It would be neat if you did indeed have different kinds of meat, like beef, venison, wild boar. these meats would be cheap near to forests, (like at Rivacheg) and marginally more expensive around the steppes.

Also, stuff like venison gives the highest morale boost, followed by the other stuff.

The most dangerous prey is...well you know...

But I know where you're coming from. Remember my thread http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1382&highlight=teeth

No? No one does. Keep fighting the good fight Kniggit.

My thread is only partly in jest.

Sure it'd be moddable, but as it is, it would be dumb. I mean ... deer and the like should want to run away from you, not attack you.
Can you imagine bringing your wounded hunter character limping into Zendar? You walk up to the merchant, coughing and gasping, and pass him a packet of furs.
"What happened to you?" He asks.
"Oh, I was mauled by a squirrel."

Exactly. they'd run away from you on the world map. they should have a limited spotting ability though. On the combat map make them spawn in the middle or something, trying to reach the edge so they can flee.

Yeah, exactly... but as far as I know, there's not a way to make the enemy AI want to reach the edge of the map and flee. Is there?

How about...they can't see you at all on the world map. And once you enter a "battle" with them, they don't know you're there until you either get too close or fire an arrow. At which point they take off running. Not sure if that would be hard to code, but it would be more fun.

Now that would be funny.

"Comeon men vittles be ready"!
"Whats it today sir?"
"Errr.....fish"
"hmm, doesn't look like fish, looks like that Veygir prisoner to me"
"Yes well....its a big man like armoured fish, very rare, only found near Tihr"
"Riiiiiiiight"

The footman backs away from the strange edible form which smelled like cabbage, safe to say the Knights men desertd him, for ever.... :!:

Reminds me when I tried to play Ultima Online many years ago, I had level 1 warrior with armor, sword and shield and went to forest hunting, only to be killed by a deer. Hell, I even had to run from the rats in the harbor when they ganged up...

And in an old game called "Nakhlah", demons could possess animals - and a possessed rabbit was a worthy opponent of any adept swordsman.

What about a taming system?

its like the riding skill, you can only tame animals that you have a high enough skill for.
you would have to knock it out, then it acts like loot and it slows you down loads (speed 3-4) then when ur ready you select it and it goes in a special slot and it acts as a troop.

Sorry if its been suggested before.

we had a POLL about hunting, fishing, etc... and 70% of the people said they wanted Hunting, 28% said they wanted hunting & fishing, and the last 2% said they didnt want either.

In my first try, I was killed by a sheep. (I only had leather armor, I was a mage without any idea on how to get regs and I had a dagger that I could not use)
