Which track and can I get a replacement?

You know I'd gladly include all of this music but I'm worried about copyright issues.  If any of this music is licensed in a way that allows it to be used in non-profit projects I'll include other than that I may just do what Urlik suggested.

Urlik 说:
if I was in charge of this mod, I wouldn't include any music.
instead I would add a text file with a list of suitable music and the file names of the game music it should replace.
saves a lot of bandwidth and also avoids any nasty legal wrangles

The best idea we could come with. As much as I dislike Native's music, and as much as I'd like to have true Medieval music.. copyright is real.

I just found this site

it's mainly 15th and 16th century, but it's all royalty free and on the site there is this fantastic message
all MP3 recordings below may be downloaded and distributed free of charge.  The recordings may be used for any purpose whatsoever.

it's a shame there isn't anything earlier than 14th century on there, but you might be able to use some of it.
I've just spent nearly 2 hours listening to the recordings on that site and he is a very good musician

Maybe there is a musician among us

Most 13th century music is not very 'instrumental' and some singing would be required I guess.

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to circumvent it like that, I've seen many other mods do the same.

I've just found out it is the otherwise excellent tracks from the commonwealth.pl site ( wow btw, very nice site ! ), they all sound great but regrettably become quite electronic after a minute or so, and I personally find they do not at all fit very well when riding around in Medieval Europe ( but are perfect for their purpose on the website ).

I demand drinking songs, like this one:

Some nice entries, all the festivity music reminds me of the excellent "Krless" from Prague, one of my favourite medieval bands. Some examples :

"Carmina burana", a great source for pan-European music from the 11th, 12th and 13th century, the largest collection of nonchurchly Lyric poetry :

You may be right, but I still think Krless is world-class and generally your country has a strong tradition for medieval music.

Actually, none of the music in Carmina Burana is of Medieval origin. The texts are all medieval, but all of the music was composed by Carl Orff. He tried for a Medieval sound, so there is a Medieval influence, perhaps, but nothing past that.

Besides, copyright on his works are still in force.

hh wrong,he means the original Carmina Burana, its a medieval bunch of songs written by corrupted monks

Yes, the lyrical poetry, the songs themselves, are medieval - as I wrote. That's how it is with most medieval music, remakes of old songs striving for authenticity with contemporary instruments is the best we can hope for. Some melodies may have their roots in the late Middle-Ages though, but such are bound to be very rare.

Can I rip the Krless music?

Write them a nice letter Kuauik, see if they let us use a few pieces

That song Cesar posted...  I always associate that song with a party and booze, I had no idea it was that old because it's still sung
