Yargolek is a wuss!

Sergeant at Arms
6 times now I have met him in battle.... 5 times he did everything in his power to avoid me!

This latest time I thought he finally grew a pair as he sought me out on the field... took one swing at me, I took a swing at him and he takes off on his little horse away from me again!

He pulled up out of the reach of my sword so I took my bow out attempting to put a arrow in his back but the lucky bastard had one of his knights ride between us at just the right moment...

I spent the next 3 minutes chasing him around like some Khergit horse archer (though I have no horse archery skill yet) trying to put him down before he made the mistake of riding into my infantry line (which thanks to his line was a big pile of troops in one spot) where he got torn to shreds by my veterans (huscarls dead atm)....

I have never seen such a chicken for a king!

Well, actually I have different experiences with Yaroglek. He might be a wuss on the battlefield, but he's one hell of a king.
I'm on my Vaegir playtrough, day ~450 and this guy just can't get enough wars. We're constantly being attacked by at least 2 factions and our territory is basically the same as the day 0 because we can't get enough troops to launch an offensive.

They are all ganging up on your because your king is a wuss!

I been in the same situation as you with your king but with Ragnar, only difference is we be conquering!

Well since I'm his vassal I can't say much (too busy to pay attention to him when we are in battle together), but I have followed him up the ladder/siege tower and he has knocked more than a few heads with his hammer.  So I don't see him as lacking courage.

OTOH, his diplomatic skills are terrible.  Like Tsuki, we have been at war against 2 others (no, never just one!) for the last 1400 days with the longest period of "peace" being 72 days.  Normal is the typical 2-3 week truce and then it's back to war.  We were once down to no towns and just 4 castles - 3 which were mine.  At least I know you have to stuff them full of good troops when you are facing 2000+ Great Hosts - the AI does not do this.  Now we Vaegirs are on the rebound - no thanks to Yarogek.  At least when I take a town or castle he gives it to me.  Wish he would do the same with the villages.  I'm getting close to overtaking him in renown, so it will be interesting to see what happens.  Probably nothing or something bad.

I had to literally grab a horse and hunt him around for like 2 minutes... he just won´t stop running

I don´t know if it is possible, but... can lords flee from battle?

If they could I am sure Yargolek would... As he doesn't I am pretty sure they cant.

I don't know why he fears me so... I always go for the lord first (habbit from RTW) and usually they knock me on my butt or at least hurt me big time (I am still a little early in this game). Yet Yargolek always runs scared.

How do you spot them?  I'm usually pretty darn busy directing the troops or swinging a weapon.  I've often thought that some of the characters I've encountered on the battlefield were almost supermen - perhaps they were lords.  What gets me is when you kill or wound every last bugger and the lord still somehow escapes.  Last night while raiding a village the Sarranide lord of the village came to their rescue.  Oh did I enjoy that, even though outnumbered almost 3 to 1.  The opportunity to fight them on foot was enthralling.  At the far edge of town I found this guy in gold armor - he was kind of caught on a fence so I gave him a couple of hits to the face with my hammer and that was that.  I kicked his corpse around a bit too.  Of course the lord escaped...

Some of these characters I would like to saw their head off with a dull knife and stick it on a pike at the entrance to town.

Nicholas, methinks you might be taking this a little too personal, but perhaps that's not a bad thing.

Spotting them is usually easy... Swadian and Khergit lords are pretty good at hiding though.

Rhodok and Nord lords are easy... they are usually the ONLY one with a horse.

Sarranid, and Vaegir can be a bit more difficult but usually the lords wear different armor than their normal units... for instance King Harlot is always prancing around in his plate... Either way you can usually spot them a few paces behind their lines...alone, or taking up the flank with their cavalry.

Only reason I have trouble spotting them in Khergit and Swadian armies is the number of cavalry... Not sure why I don't have this trouble with Sarranids.

Even if it doesn't have the same effect that it did in RTW (Massive drop in enemy moral causing a rout) It still makes me happy to go head hunting on the lords and I know that I likely saved a half dozen or more of my troops lives by doing it.

As to what you want to do to these characters... Dull knife is too good for them... break out the rubber chicken!

You think so?  Just because I go about cursing the name of Granwald while riding my shopping cart?  Drunken Swadian sot... Just because I consider the Sarranids nothing more than insects to be crushed under my boot?  Granted, thousands of large, angry stinging insects, but insects none the less.  Even their name sounds like an bug.  I need a huge can of Raid to get them off my map....

Yeah, it's personal.  I admit it.  I have a negative relationship with silicon synthetic characters.  But *they* started it!    "Oh Nicholas, how good it is to see you again.  What?  Why are you upset with me razing your fief?  I am disappointed with you Nicholas...."

Which is why I envy and seek to emulate NJSQRL's ability to spot and take them out.  It would simply feel exhilarating to beat the life of Hakim with my lordly mailed fist.

As I said...there is usually something that sets the lord apart from the rest of the group...

Only one mounted (with heavy armor) for Rhodok and Nord lords, Khergits gotta find the one guy wiht a two hander... same for Sarranids, Vaegirs the lord usually does not have the same armor as the Knights.

Swadians are just like the Vaegirs... Lord is usually in different armor from the rest, Harringoth is an exception... he wears the same crap his Knights do but I never see him with a morningstar (some knights dont either)

Meh I usually just pick off the Lords at range.  So many Lords do not wield shields.  Like Space Marine Captains and their helmet allergies.

How to spot them? That's quite simple:
1) As mentioned already - they usually have unique armor sets (especially helmets) and weapon.
2) They usually stand on the side of marching troops, or charge in front of them if they are too confident
3) During sieges 90% of the time they are one of the first troops to enter the footbridge

Get a good look on sarranid troops and you'll be able to tell which are lords in a no time.

Aye, In my game it goes like this: if the enemy is advancing in a line and he has a lot of cavalry he tends to walk in the middle of the line closely behind to the infantry. He does this instead of marching with his cav.

If he has few to no cavalry he tends to walk on the right or left side of the line not in the middle. Nords lords are different in this, they will walk in the middle of the line behind the infantry.
