Xuchotl - Halls of Silence

"Great beads of perspiration dripped from his dark forhead, and his eyes blazed with terror." -- Red Nails

Whoa! Another Conan mod! Xuchotl: Halls of Silence is a mod based on one of Robert E. Howard's later works, Red Nails where a blood-feud has been raging for half a century between the occupants of the once-great city of Xuchotl. Set roughly ten years before Valeria and Conan arrived, Tolkemec has been captured and cast into the catacombs with no hope of escape... The Tecuhitli, lead by Olmec and Tascela, are warring with the black monstrosities of the Xotlanc, who bring artifacts of maddening power forth from the mysterious crypts of ages long past... With no hope of escape, the clans are destined to fight throughout the many emptied hallways between their strongholds - the Halls of Silence...

Features:
  • Completely interior design. No grass, no sunlight. Just dark halls and weird lights.
  • Two new factions. The charismatic Tecuhitli, and the dark Xotlanc.
  • "Massive", four story city with empty houses, long hallways and mysterious catacombs.
  • Dark artifacts of great power. Use glowing skulls, shrilling pipes and other creations of wizards from Xuchotl's forgotten past to conquer your foes.
  • Battle evil monstrosities from hell as the Tecuhitli, or join them as the Xotlanc

Currently, I've implemented the factions, character creation and a menu for the city itself. I was planning on doing some of the city itself before hand, however I'm no modeler and figured it'd be a little boring to have 4 rooms using Native interiors...

So, basically, the city is split into 5 sections, each having 4 floors and the strongholds entrances to separate parts of the catacombs:

Where the hallway, or the Great Hall (running North-South) is just a smaller area that lets you jump from side-to-side. The Halls of Silence will, of course, be maze-like (similar to the catacombs) hallways and houses that have enemies & allies randomly spawned per entry. Purchasing items will be done from your stronghold, where quests/troops will be available from your leaders based upon your reputations with them. People are scarce in Xuchotl, so blindly obtaining 20+ troops doesn't really make sense as each side would only approximately have 50.

So, instead of focusing on gaining a large amount of troops and training them up, the focus is instead on killing your enemy, whatever way possible, without loosing too many of your own. Troops will not respawn, so once their dead, that's it your on your own against the enemy

The Tecuhitli will focus more on numbers and strength than the Xotlanc, who instead, to balance, are a lot faster and gain access to devastating artifacts such as the pipes of madness, which turn your enemies on each other (select few join your side for some time?), or a deathstick that acts like a ranged weapon with infinite uses (but, perhaps very slow to represent conductivity?).

After all of this, I'm thinking about "opening up" the mod by making a new map and allowing you to travel to other cities in the Black Kingdoms such as Xuthal, and perhaps a few others(?). Hell, maybe even Darfar/Stygia will fit in there somewhere.

So, what do you think? Anyone willing to help out with some modelling?

looks interesting, however I warn you trying to make a large indoor... empire or similar is very hard, trust me I tried, it is also very hard to do what you want without making the whole thing a massive lagtastic orgy. just a note.

also this is loosly aztec/mayan etc right?

hmm all these names sound nahuatl, so I am guessing it's pretty much mexica (aztec)- based, you are welcome to use the mesoamerican mod's items if you wish (and if they are useful for your mod) as long as you give us credit

I believe Mayan culture was kind of where Howard was headed, yeah...

I figure with the indoors thing I'll just try it out for now, and if it becomes a 'lagtastic orgy' (), we can just split into smaller sections. I would rather not have to, but...

Anyway, anyone wanting to read the story can go here:

Edit: Awesome, thanks Guspav  From reading the story, I'm pretty sure they were still using Middle-East style swords, etc. But hey, mods can change right?

Ooh, I actually read this one time I think. Is this the one where Conan finds the city in the middle of nowhere after escaping a giant dinosaur creature?
I think it is, anyway, sounds like an intresting mod. Very different to say the least.

yes sir, that's the one.

good luck with the mod Lycaon.

Where the dinosaur was called a Dragon by the people of Darfar...

In either case, a small update: I am in no way an artist and rely on other peoples work to make something worthwhile, but I did find a little program call Sketchup Pro installed on my computer which resembles some obscure kind of modelling program. Anyway, I gave it a shot and in 10 minutes had this:

Which is to say, err, an untextured, half-finished room.
But anyway, is something like this surpassable until we get a 'real' modeller? Textures, bleh, probably just bucket fill  This is the type of thing I can replicate quite easily, so I think I'll through together a few levels until something more attractive comes along. Heh.

Wrong place to ask Prinz.

Anyway, good to see such an interesting premise behind a mod. For models, Lycaon, you should be able to get more contributions and help once people see things progressing in other areas, such as the coding. I would consider making a section with the dungeon scenery from native, even if just for demonstration purposes. Then once more people are interested you should be able to re-design things with more help at hand. It may also be an idea to make a short list of models that you need, such as the style of weaponry each side will be using, so that people can contribute models without being wary of having to commit themselves to a project.

That's an ok first model. Sketchup is rubbish. Use Wings3D instead. Read the tutorials.

i had a question can someone here make a mod for mount and blade in the fallout age or in the dune universe?????
Stop asking everywhere!

Sound like fun to me
...wait, CONAN?

What's wrong with Conan? It's not like you'll see him or anything

fisheye:
Yeah, Sketchup is crap, however it was already installed on my computer and Wings 3d crashes, where I can't even get onto Blender's website. Probably a Vista issue. I'll take another look later, but hey, it'll do for now, right?

Oubilette:
Programming is quite easy to me (C++ for 5 years...), so that I've pretty much done what your asking anyway, however I thought it would atleast be better to create some basic, larger interiors to represent the area in such away that enemies can be directly seen, and actualy fit in the level properly.

Still, I'll upload it here later if you want.
