Windows new x64 edition will soon conquer the market of operating systems. I'm already running it but sadly, M&B doesn't work.

I suggest a patch to let x64 users use Mount & Blade and make it more attractive in a future game market.

What's new with Win X64?
I'm reasonably sure that it's just 64-bit program support. And obviously the other things related to 64-bit computing, like higher RAM limits. But it breaks compatability with some things. I head that most 32-bit programs run all right, but this one doesn't (according to zhike).

That's a single example. We don't even know if the cause is really the 64 bit system. M&B doesn't work with some other systems aswell. I've seen topics like 'it won't start with level 10' or 'I won't buy it 'coz there's some strange copy protection'

EDIT: or does it say the exact reason?

I wonder what causes one could have for voting no on such a perfectly clear question.

Of course we want Mount & Blade to grow fast and last long (and eventually conquer the world, muhahahaHAHAH! erm... yes), so why not make it available to a wider gamerpopulation?

I vote YES! Join the future, go for x64!

o yeah!!
just like that time bill said they made a 32 bit version of microsoft when it actually was 16bit....

64 bit doesnt make a lot of difference beside the point that it can have more memory (RAM) than 32bit...
its useful if you use lots of numbers( i mean with some lots of digits!!)
but eventually people will turn to 64bit...

and how about adding a MAC implementation too?!
or unix??

I said no because this will only add to development time, and wont really be a big issue for the majority of users for at least another year or 2... I still know people who havn't moved to XP yet...

And in any case, how do you suggest the devs get their hands cheaply and legally on the required software and knowhow support to make such a patch?

I'm reasonably sure that the only thing that matters is the compiler, since they're not writing in machine code or anything. Wasn't it C++ for most of the game and Delphi or something for the ai? Neither of them is a particularly low-level language, so they just need to use a different compiler/different options. BTW, I don't know about the language for sure. Someone wrote that in another thread.

it woulndt be too hard to compile it in 64-bit since its not much of code tweaking... i mean very little difference...
LINUX or at least MAC OS versions!! i want it!! and i will get it!! and i mean it!!

I have recently upgraded to XP64, and I would like to be able to run M&B on this system (I have a backup system that runs it fine, so I can get my fix). But I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the Thermida copy protection driver. XP64 requires 64bit drivers, and the one supplied with M&B (I assume) is only 32bit.

I can't understand the logic behind voting no on something like this... In any case, my opinion is if you're upgrading soon you should always avoid new versions of windows. When i got my old comp in 2001, i specifically requested windows ME at that time (after much fighting with customer support), because believe it or not it was far more stable and ran more applications than XP back then (ok, so 98SE would have been the best choice, but that is beside the point  ). Now that microsoft has ironed out most of the bugs, XP is the better choice, so i upgraded to it with my new system about a year ago. Since i can't imagine them dropping support for XP32 for quite a while, it is a much better choice IMO for another year or so. Simple conclusion: XP32 > XP64 right now, and probably will be for a good while, but M&B needs to support 64bit systems ASAP.

If you read the question carefully, it says "do you need such a patch?". If someone doesn't have 64 bit system, then naturally he wouldn't need this.

I vote yes, but only after they remove the horses disappearing from battlefield ::grin:

(And as long as the game still works on 32 bit systems. )

Trizzunkz got it in one.

The problem is directly linked to Thermida ... and they are working on making it compatable with 64 bit operating systems already. It shouldn't be more than two or three weeks and they should have it out.

Ugh, Microsoft is a little "selfish" seemingly when it comes to operating systems. I mean, what the hell, it goes Win. 95, okay, Win. 98, fine, Win. ME, you're doing nicely, then Windows XP. New kernel entirely. You can't run ANYTHING that's older than ME/2000. Take one of my awesome old games, for example, Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Normally there are ways of making these old games run (i.e. DOSBox, a nice emulator of DOS) but my handy DOS emulator is too slow, because that thing actually demands a LOT of CPU, and it can't even play games that are up to like, Doom without that muscle, so I wasn't going to be running the DOS version (it comes in two versions, DOS and Win95). And so, I looked around some more on forums etc., and I find something interesting:

There is NO KNOWN WAY AT ALL for the 95 version to run on XP. We're talking, like, people with actual programming knowledge that love old games trying to figure this out. So if they don't know, it's not there. I read a post, this guy says that XP has a completely new kernel.dll makeup.

{|NOTE: THIS NEXT PARAGRAPH IS MARGINALLY USEFUL, IN CASE YOU WERE THINKING OF GETTING THE x64-WHATEVER.|}

Now this x64 crap? You don't have to worry about it, though, just don't get that. I get Computer Gaming World, and it says that Microsoft will already release its new OS, "Windows Vista", at the end of this year/start of next year. Might as well enjoy M&B until that comes out.
Still, though, Microsoft is good overall in my humble opinion. XBox is the shiz.

Thus ends my essay on the only real reason Microsoft could suck.

Wondering if there's any update on the themida issue with XP 64-bit as I've just upgraded my PC over the last week and now m&b works no longer

I just get a box with title of "Themida" with a single square character and an ok button, I think I prefer the way it used to run; there were people and horses and weapons and all sorts.

Now it's pretty dull and I don't play it very often, the novelty of closing the popup box diminishes rapidly...

If anyone knows any update on 64 bit situation I'd be interested to find out.

Welcome to the forums, MrLizard.

I am unsure if Thermida has released a 64-bit compatable version yet. I'll ask Armagan about it and see if he knows anything more about it.
