They reorganized it.

Well, they did organize it in a really weird way.  Downloadable mods and tools and their forums should have one top level forum.

Then there should be a general modding forum like before.  Otherwise people just post crossplatform posts anyhow.

The Pioneer's Guild is the general forum. The reason we didn't use top level for the downloadable mods is that they're usually much fewer in number and less active than the general stuff, hence we placed it in a seperate board. You can get to it from the main page by clicking on the child board link anyway.

As for the tool boards, I'm still working out what's going to happen there, especially with several moving to the MBX board. More than likely we'll consolidate the tools into standard threads and add a library board as a faq/manual thing in a similar fashion to the library. All the guides and any other useful workarounds etc will then go into the library board.

The idea behind the re-organisation is threefold. Firstly, it seperates the "how do I mod" type questions from the actual mod announcements and similar. This will hopefully make it a lot easier on prospective modders looking for answers to specific issues. Secondly, we split the board into playable mods and development/mod idea's to help highlight those mods with playable content. In other words, it makes it a lot easier (especially for new players) to see precisely what is available to play at the moment. Finally we have the board locked to new topics in order to make the mods easier to find. This is especially important for the smaller mods with less active threads, such as the battlesize changer. These mods tended to be pushed to page three or four of the forum as they were rarely commented on, despite being widely used.

If the new layout seems strange, it's probably because I designed the layout more for the benefit of newcomers to the game (or the board). The idea is that a newbie just looking for something new to play with can easily see what's available without needing to click through a page of "in development, no download" type mods. Those looking for information on getting started can also easily find the stuff they need and instructions on getting started. Hopefully, it will also mean more questions get answered rather than disappear of the board under a deluge of mod idea posts.

The changeover is not entirely completed yet. I'm still chucking around a couple of idea's of things which we can do with the mod boards, especially for the veteran players and modders we already have (fair's fair  ). I'll put them forward in the website & community board when I think them through. In other words, watch this space.

The WTF thread?

The problem I have with the new layout is that I have to think. I don`t want to think, and therefore I check all the boards to find some familiar sounding threads. I see the intention, but it makes things (relatively) difficult.

Yeah, I think this is a great idea, but the cartographer's guild should be a top level board, the first board in the mod sextion.

As for the rest, well I don't think you will ever be able to split them up entirely but I think the following would help:

top level
released mods
  -tools and nonplayable mods
  -subforums for individual games
Mod help (to get mods running)
-modding help for questions about modding
Announcements and requests

I really don't understand this. It was not necessary and it is just frustrating to a lot of people.
