WSE, 1.168 and questions

I'm actually unable to play the game.
I've downloaded the last version, but the (old) WSE said it could not work on my steam 1.168 version of the game.
So i've seen that there's a new, updated WSE (4.2.4) that works with 1.168. It must have something changed, as when I tried to launch silverstag the game crashed when loading.

So I resolved to get a separate, non-steam install of the game as 1.153 and to get in Silverstag and the old WSE. I launched WSE but it showed in the mods of 1.168 installation.  I guess it traces them.

So, few simple questions:
1- can I play with the updated 4.2.4 WSE version? Is there some plan to use it?
2- can I play with the 1.168 version of the game, somehow?

thanks in advance.

So, when you subscribe to the mod on Steam, or download from ModDB, it should come with a WSE that has Warband 1.153, which was the last version WSE 3.2 (?) worked. When you launch WSE, it should boot the 1.153 version from within its folder.

It will show all the mods installed, regardless of whether or not they work with the version. Launch again, choose Silverstag, and let it load. If the version above "Play Tutorial" says 1.153, then you're fine. Otherwise, recheck the steps and try again.

1- Windy will have to answer that question. I don't see why not as long as it builds off the old WSE, but still. Windy question.
2- You absolutely need WSE for this mod to work. Any version of Warband that doesn't, or can't, use it, can't be played with Silverstag.

Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue to play Empires III; it wants WSE, I had 1.168 installed, WSE kept finding 1.168 as that was the LAST version I installed
and Windows Registry records that path (and my serial number) for Warband.  I had 2-3 paths with different warbands installed.  My fix
was to rename  my mb_warband.exe  to  mb_warband1168.exe, then right click the properties of the warband desktop icon so that
target  is    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mount&Blade Warband\mb_warband1168.exe"

This allows my normal 1.168 Warband mods to run.
I now copy from my Warband 1.153 install folder    mb_warband.exe      and the WSE subfolder DIRECTLY from their respective folders
Warband (1.168's) folder.  I next make a desktop shortcut to launch  WSELoader.exe from the WSE subfolder under my 1.168 Warband,
which then matches the path stored in the Windows Registry, which now finds a 1.153 version mb_warband.exe, which otherwise has all the support files for
Warbhand 1.168 in the same directory, which can start 1.168 by using my desktop icon (shudder to lose control to Steam! I should be able to pick
what to run without a blindfold, somewhat like choosing my own partners for sex, unlike the Steam method where it "handles" everything for me, as if I was a brain dead twit).

  It works for me.
