People, people, people! I have been reading these forums, but didn't really feel like joining, until now. Everyone's confidence has motivated me to register. I haven't started a thread to praise everyone, but instead give my advice. Stop degrading yourselves about your work! If I see another, "I made this, but it's not that great. I suck, I bet someone else will make something better." I'll keep complaining. I don't give a shiznit, your work could be THE most ugliest thing existing, but you tried and actually worked hard. I know a select few are just being humble, but if any single one of you is worried about some punk talkin' trash about your creations, I will slap you. I can expect some punk to perceive this thread wrong, then go talkin' trash about this and that, but you think I care? No, i'm just tryin' to tell the people who work hard on mods, stories, all that other stuff. Nobody here has any worth more than you, nor less. We all **** the same way, unless you're like.. mutated or something. (Please, any official mutants, take no offense to that.) Anyways, i'm not really complaining, just tryin' to help. If it does, at all. Any work you do, you need to think you're great. If you see your work as a masterpiece, you'll keep making things and eventually practice so much, others will actually start noticing it. For example, this LOTR mod i've seen. I see that mod as great, but the creator keeps degrading his work. He might be truly proud, but he doesn't show it. I just believe in attitude, it isn't really THE KEY to good work, but it can sure help! Anyways, i'm only trying to imply that you should be PROUD! That's all.

Hi, Blink, God bless you!

Wellcome to the forums.

At this moment I will not coment your post because I need to read it slow, but I will edit my post to coment it.

EDIT:

Well, I think that you are a little drunk (no offence). It should be that the English is not my primary language that is some dificult to me understant what do you want to say.

I think that you refer to some stupid posts that made some spammers, that eventually get banned.

And I feel that you feel angry because the modders feel good of their work, or because they feel bad of the same, I cannot understand.

But, say to us mutants... well, I think that is not the proper way to begin here.

I disagree and dislike a lot of things in this world, and in this forum, but saying things that aren't constructive, or even clear to understand, I think will not help.

I think that you will be lucky if you don't get banned first. I am sorry for that.

We are here because we like M&B. M&B is a game that allows you to create your own worlds, and follow the story you want, and thank to guys as Effidian and Thorgrim (specially, there are others), the most of us can do our own worlds.

The best that we can do, is BEING THE BEST WE CAN DO.

I apologize if I ofended you, it wasn't my intention. I repeat, you are wellcome.

He's just saying not to underestimate one's own creations (with an added bit of humour [mutant talk & the rest]). Not to call one's own creations ****ty in fear that someone else will (succesfully taking away the power from those mean words).

I think you misunderstood him FEyes. No worries though.

Great work Ilex. Your custom tag could be "The ASCII Master".
Nice work, really, Is very dificult in Windows ambient. In Native mode is more easy, right?

On the contrary. If they feel their work is perfect, then where's the incentive to continue?

All your mods suck. Go off and make them better

That's the spirit!

Seriously, though, there may be cultural differences here. The way I was raised, modesty is a virtue. To proudly proclaim one's own achievments/creations as grand and great and all that, is subsequently seen as a sign of immaturity (because only children are "allowed" to brag) and viewed with scepticism. There's nothing we like more than to shoot a cocky SOB down. Hence, if I had made something I thought was good, I'd say "it's not particularly good", or if I thought it great, I'd say "I think I did pretty ok, if I may say so myself".

This applies to one's own achievments, mind you. You don't downplay other people's achievments - unless they themselves overplay them. Downplaying one's own achievments, then, is sort of an invitation for other people to say, "nonsense, this is excellent!"

I think its more to do with the way the mind works.

Whenever your trying to do something like a mod, you have a clear picture in your head of what you want to achieve.
You then have to fit that around the existing engine and limitations, which usually necessitates some form of compromise of the original idea.
The end result is that the creator is unhappy about certain aspects of the mod, simply because those were the areas where the limitations of the game forced them to alter their initial concept. You're never quite satisfied with those areas because you're sure there is a way to do it better.

You should be proud of your work but you SHOULDN'T think it is the best, never.

My maxim is 'The moment when you think your work is perfect is the moment you start declining.'

it's very simple, don't be ashamed of yourself or your creativity. I don't think any of the mod makers are. They are simply humble and in my experience the best tend not to blow their own trumpets anyway.
