Well i'm just one of the guys who sits around doing nothing, but criticizing and throwing around ideas. So if you're interested read on.

A feature that would freese the whole battle and bring you to a top down view of the battle. There you could adjust what formations your army would stand in (adding new formations) and their combat style (like volleys or only blunt weapons). You could toggle it to turn on before the battle starts so your troops wouldn't just charge into battle at the start. You could also see the near high grounds and such and command your troops to move there.

So would this be win? Someone probably has already thought about this idea.

Well said.))

Seriously though, I think that's what the Total War series is for.

There's something that's interisting in this idea.

there's already an order system, but one, very useful in my opinion, is missing : the "GO THERE" order. We just can't tell our troups to go and sit on that damn hill over there, if we are not with them at this point^^

It would have been gret, for example, when new enemy cavalry spawn and charge, though we are alredy in the middle of a fight, to tell ours spearmen to form back and go at one precise location to break that charge.

Maybe not making m&b a total war, but adding orders like this would be awesome!

I don't like the way of it.A human couldn't have that view of battle when he's fighting, this is not pratical

@Xander: You can tell your troops to go and sit on that hill over there. Hold the F1 button and move your mouse around until your flag points to a place where you want your troops to go.

I think this is a pretty cool idea! There are two refinements I can think of. The first would be that you could have a bit in the options menu where you could choose if you wanted the battle to pause while in command view or to continue around you (more realistic). The other thing that would make more sense is that you can only see enemy troops in command view if you can see them in normal view (i.e. you have a fog of war over the areas that your character can't see from his current position).

Exactly what I think...
while I like the Total War Series and play it frequently,
I also like, that it is done differently in Mount and Blade,
as this gives you much more the feeling of being a commander on the battlefield.

The only thing that should be expanded would be the orders that you can give to your troops
(and maybe the ability to kneel and order your soldiers to kneel)
