Worthwhile goals to pursue other than conquering everything

I find trying to take over everything extremely boring. Late game is a tedious grind of sieges. The most fun part of the game is upto when you get your first castle. It all goes downhill from there.

So I am thinking of making a character that does not have world domination as his goal. I tried a trader and lots of fun, being a slaver and village raiding bandit was fun too. However there is no goals for these career paths.

So help me me craft some new ones. If you were a bandit or trader or slaver in vanilla Warband what would your various goals and achievments ? Things that make your character feel he has advanced, like how you feel when you add another castle to your empire. Just making money or boring xbox360 achievments like gather stash of x weapons and collectible don't feel same.

It's not my idea, but I forgot who come up with it, so forgive me for not giving credits where they are due.

Anyway, as far as I remember, he played with permadeath.  That is, the first time you are killed, that's the end of the game.  After that you retire and you post/record your score.  Best score "wins", so to speak.  Of course no cheats, and "realistic" save&exit, on maxed difficulty.

I play now trying to do it fast.  Believe you me, that it changes a lot, when you play against the (ingame) clock.  Native suddenly has quite a lot of Pendor feeling to it.  If you like early game, try to beat the (ingame) time to first castle, 100 honor, 2000 renown or whatever else you may fancy.

Getting a girl you like and marry her. My biggest goal in WB.

That for all I care, is the end game for me. IT HAS A CUTSCENE!!!!!!! How awesome is that? Even the actual end game isnt that awesome. "You win, You are the king, hooray."

Aah yes, I remember fighting wars in the name of love, so that the other realm would beg for peace and I could meet my girl again.

I was a mercenary once who only cared about the status-quo and did what hruza mentioned: Keeping the borders all exactly how they are.

If the nords lose two cities, I'd wait until my contract is over with whoever I was currently with and offer my services to the Nords to recapture the cities.

I'd just be an elite group of mercenaries with a huge mix of units: vaegir archers, khergit horse archers, swadian knights, sarranid mamlukes, rhodok sharpshooters and nord huscarls.

Actually status quo is favourable for you to found kingdom. It is easier to start and develop your own kingdom against 6 smaller kingdoms which compete than it is against 2 or 3 megaempires. So I usually go around helping to keep country in balance until I am ready to start my own kingdom. Even then I still try to prevent one or two competitors getting dominant even if of course my direct intervention is now more limited. For this I like to build my realm right in the middle as that gives me ability to strike in any direction according to situation.

Roleplaying? Hello?

In my AAR last year, my ultimate goal was to reach a particular point when my character, true to his namesake, would face Harlaus and Klargus in battle and go on a "Because of people like you, war never ends" tirade before beating them up. And yes that was one of the few times I actually sided with the Rhodoks.

Unfortunately, I never found the time to continue with said AAR. But the point is, playing so that you can tell a good story is always a goal to consider.

If you want action, just declare war to all factions after you get your first castle.
