Workshops during war

Hello everyone. I have a question on workshops during times of war. When working as a mercenary (or a vassal i suppose), if you go to war with an enemy faction do you lose your workshops in their region? If yes, do you lose them right away or over time? Do you guys sell and reinvest in a new workshop in a friendly town? An example: I just joined the Western empire bc they will give me a 200 denar mercenary contract. They are at war with northern and southern empire. I have a smithy in epocreta and a wool weavery in poros.

Yes you do lose them right away with no refund so better get them at the region of the faction you'll join cuz sooner or later they will be in war with 2-3 factions.

They sieze your profitable workshop and change it to a type that is unprofitable. Sometimes they even change it to be the same type as another active unprofitable workshop in the town. Not a lot of smarts behind those decisions...

That doesn't add up and seems quite unfair. Ai will only change workshops that you own during war? I haven't noticed Ai changing workshops that are not owned.
