Wondering about plate armor

Hello,

I've been playing mount and blade for some time now and I realy like the game.

But the looks of my gear suck

So I was wondering if there was any way to get plate armor (Like kings/lords wear) without using any item editors/modules

I have a plate helmet but what about the chestpiece... Is there any way to get it without using any editors/modules

Kind regards Yitue

Yes, there is plate armor in the game, its the top armor there is and is the most expensive. No need for editing or a module. Just look at the armorsmiths inventory more often and you should see it show up.

now why the hell would you want to use that? the last(and only) time I tried it, I got K.O. so damn easily! Same goes for any type of heavier piece of gear that I tried using at any time(read heavier than 5.0). The things I use are high-grade nomad armor(highest weight to defence ratio in the whole game), light leather(next on the list) and very rarely lamellar vest(third and last on the list). I prefer to go for mobility personally - the lighter the armor, the more easily I can dodge, so I don`t really need armor but for any stray/glancing hits

I'd recommend chain mail until later on during the game when you get a proper warhorse and can maintain speed with the full plate. Without the horse you'll become easy picking by archers and skirmishers (especially Rhodok's and Khergits) and sometimes even quicker infantry units. When you do get the armor (and the warhorse) I'd recommend a proper lance for crouched lance damage.

Really no need for full plate armour, unless that's your style, some of the more expensive mail has near enough the same stats and with a lot less weight.

I can second that. I personally prefer lamellar vest in the rare cases I put on anything heavier - it provides a lot of protection while being the lightest of all heavy armors.

If you are incredibly rich, you might as well buy plate armour. Don't bother if you aren't.

I also go for vanity over shinyness. Although I am starting to suspect my reasons for choosing rhodok sharpshooters may be more to do with their sodding great shields with my personal emblem than their effectiveness  :???:

The best looking armour, in my opinion, is the custom surcoat over
chainmail, such as you can find in the 1257AD mod. I works very
nicely with the guard helmet, the two coming together seamlessly.
One of my favorite runs through Mount and Blade was conquering
the map for the Vaegir without ever employing anyone but the 16
companions, and giving them surcoats and barding with colours
indicating their function on the battlefield.  In that mod, you also
get to have custom barding on warhorses.

By the way, it is a little known fact, but high persuasion allows
you to keep even incompatible companions in your party.  And
nothing clear the walls like a dozen masterwork war bows
working together.

Against lots of opponents, a heavily armored soldier will get surrounded and mobbed to death, while the mobile soldier may survive by dodging all attacks.

Mail shirt is the best. It's light weighted and provides decent protection.

way too heavy
i go as far as banded armour / mail + sucoat

plate is only good if you use it in combination with a horse

Exactly Chris, what do you do? Even you have common sense that heavy armour is needed for sieges.

i ride my horse with a lance and i have 10 athelitics (if my horse then i need to be fast) so the heavy armour is really that slow on me

I only go inside when the wall has been cleared(for which reason I`m a `fricken` archer), and inside there`s plenty of space for dancing.

mail shirt is possibly the worst piece of armor in Native - as much protection as a studded leather coat while it weighs a bit more than the lamellar vest :???:

I play knight that rely heavy on couched lance damage. I dont use a warhorse, I use a lighter faster, more agile horse. Put a few points into riding now and then, and use Cuir Buoilli, a Great Helmet, Splintered Greaves, Mail Mittens and a Kiteshield (cause its good AND it has my emblem!). I'd say this is prolly the closest you get to "medium" armour, apart from the great helmet that is.

I have no trouble in riding around the battlefield picking down foes with my Balanced Jousting Lance, and if it calls for it I have other weaponry. Play around, try diferent stuff.. I did not like the Winged Great Helmet, simply because it screwed up my aiming ability with the lance : P

There is no "best" armour, it all depends on what you do. If your an archer then of course you dont stumble around in heavy platearmour...

So go with the armour you feel yourself at home in.

...What version do you play? Studded coat is less protection then the mail shirt. The mail hauberk is an improved version of it.
Hence why I wonder why it still exists.

Oh, so you say, "Well, I'm a lazy ass archer, I'll send all my weaker archers up to get slaughtered by real melee troops!) Try to break the siege while your the first one up with your melee tank troops, such as Nord huscarls and Rhodok sergeants. Very fun, don't snipe unless your on 1.003 Dhirim. Or if you have weak men, or want to solo. Kinda essential then, ain't it?

latest version? a studded coat actually has the same protection as a mail shirt, only the coat is lighter.
and I don`t send my troops to assault a castle. fist we shoot all the defenders out of the walls, then I go in to kill whatever is left. enough with the lumpheads, mkay?
