Wishlist - Auto equip food

Recruit
I saw this mentioned somewhere else, then forgoten about. It is something that I also have been wanting.

When your food runs out, or if it gets stolen when you lose a battle, any other food in your inventory should auto-equip itself. I have had my party desert me while I was unconscious because they were starving, even though I had 5 bits of fish. It is ludicrous and needs fixing.

Or why not ditch the food slot altogether and just eat whatever tastes best straight out of the inventory.

Or, possibly, we ditch food altogether, and assume it is covered in the weekly pay that we give our men. That would make the game more fun, and leave more time to get on with the important stuff i.e. riding around hitting people.

Nice idea. Maybe I can add to it . Make so it that to recruit someone, you have to pay not only gold but also give them food upon joining. But then again, that would mean you would never have to feed them, which is not a good idea after all .

i don't understand all the fuss about this.
i think the current foodslot is fine. i just wish i could eat prisoners.

 that would be so cool! Imagine talking to Borcha when you get him from Rivacheg.
Borcha: We could make a great team if you realease me.
You: I don't think so. You're getting me a nice ransom.
Borcha: Umm... there is no ransom.
You: That's okay. We just ran out of smoked fish.

Soon we shall see forage ability. With the highest level, your entire party can eat grass and survive!

The food really isn't much of a pain. I would like drinks though. I never even buy food. I get plenty from my enemy and often ditch the half eaten stuff when I don't have room for loot.

you know, that powder/cube stuff used to make instant chicken broth. I suppose it could be other broths too.

Am I the only person who thinks the food issue should be dropped from this game altogether? It seems like it just adds another layer of micromanagement while adding practically nothing to the gameplay. My relationship with food pretty much goes:

-Run around map looking for bad guys
-"Party out of food" message comes up in big red letters
-I put wheat/fish/whatever in the slot.
-Repeat

Seriously, who doesn't think this game could do without that?

If this game was sufficiently expanded, where everybody needed it, you could incorporate it to your advantage in the gameplay. If a town needed a certain amount of food per day, and foragers/ caravans/ farmers provided that food, you could besiege a town and not let those parties into it.

This would be cool. Right now it's really just a nuisance.

I myself like the food being an item you have to carry. I actually brag about that feature to folks, and it's been a selling point. I think I can see some folks wanting to autoequip. I think it could be an optional thing. Or perhaps a mod?

How is it a "selling point?" As I said earlier, it really adds nothing appreciable to the gameplay, just something annoying that you have to keep an eye on. Not to mention the fact that it's totally inconsistent thematically; if this game were more of a "Sim Private Army Manager" where you had to actually track the soldiers' abilities, ensure that they were fed and rested and disciplined then it wouldn't be entirely inappropriate. But this isn't that kind of game.

I mean, maybe if food affected actual combat in some way (which is still pretty silly), you might be able to justify its existence.

Well, men will fight differently after a luncheon of delicious dried meat or, umm, what is grain anyways? A Bake-Your-Own-Bread kit? Anyways, it doesn't matter since sleep and drink would have much greater effects, and neither of those are in the game.
