It all works! Haven't seen an NPC use it yet, but I only jumped in-game to test it briefly.
You can sail around the map! So cool! :grin:

One bug I did find was when you returned to shore, you're map icon changes from a guy on a horse to just a guy - I think it resets to the villager icon. Small thing, but worth mentioning.
 
Ai parties still seem to get stuck occasionally, they get stuck in the middle of travelling on water (they stop moving - even though it says "travelling to ....") also they dont always work properly while on land - as in they will just run straight at the water instead of moving to a town. Trying to fix it but im not sure as to why they are doing this  :???:

EDIT: when i go talk to those parties which are stuck and then exit the conversation they work again. No idea why this happens

Has anyone got this to work? Authors been offline since december 11th
 
I was going to try it, but after all the bugs ive seen people reporting i thought i would hold off. I dont have the time atm to try and fix them.

I did PM the author, but obviously no reply as of yet.
 
I'm going to use this for my mod. I'm wondering, is there anyone who has a good dock icon. If not, I'll just model one myself (and release it as OSP).

Also I aim on fixing the bugs, and releasing as OSP. If anyone could tell me what the bugs are it would be appreciated.

Also, I'm going to add a way to make lords have to "siege" in order to land at an enemy port.
 
I've got a pretty good one, actually. And I made it specifically for this mod (right at the end when it still looked like Fire_and_Blood was alive).

I'm going to use this for my mod. I'm wondering, is there anyone who has a good dock icon. If not, I'll just model one myself (and release it as OSP).

Also I aim on fixing the bugs, and releasing as OSP. If anyone could tell me what the bugs are it would be appreciated.

Also, I'm going to add a way to make lords have to "siege" in order to land at an enemy port.

Nice! I was planning on using this, well, I have to have water travel, as i have islands. I was also turned away from the large ammount of AI glitches. Good luck with this :smile:
 
Alright, problems ive noticed:

  • Lords get confused by rivers.
  • Lords sometimes try to get to the "closest" port, which sometimes is on a different landmass. So the lord ends up running into the coastline.
  • Troops traveling to a town will get stuck "waiting" outside of the town

Its not that bad, only two bugs so far I've found...
OK I might not use this OSP, but I don't know of any alternatives. I'll do my best to fix this for now.

Yeah, could you direct me to the code that does ai pathing, and decides if they should use water or not etc? I can't seem to find it.

AI pathing is done inside the engine. With the modsys you can switch modes (water/land)

To learn more you will need to download the game code and study the scripts/triggers

Is it party_slot_is_on_water ?
 
I managed to fix the problem... pretty simple solution actually!  :lol:

I'll post how I did it tomorrow. I'm tired.


Nope I'm dumb. What I did was, I changed the bridge so they had a bridge terrain arching over a river terrain. However, this doesn't work.


I know what to do now. The system of going from port to town, and town to port, is FLAWLESS. The problem is the AI.


I'm going to recode the ai, from the ground up, the release it as OSP. Wish me luck!
 
If you can get this up and running again Ramaraunt, that would be incredible. I've always wanted to use this, but shied away from it due to all the issues people kept having.

So basically, I came up with a solution last night to the AI problem.

Zones. At the a start of the game, every location on the map (town, village, castle) is assigned a zone. Then, there are new invisible border markers that mark borders between zones. There will be calculations done to calculate the zone each party is in. Then to cross between zones, parties have to use border "crossing points" like invisible markers, ferries, and ports. I dont have much time to talk now,but I hope this makes sense.
 
That sounds like a pretty good approach.

Question 1: If there is nothing but an open field between Zone G and Zone H, will the AI still have to pass through a certain point or can they just wander over the border at any point?

Question 2: And what about if an AI party is chasing a player party? Will they be able to follow anywhere or will they have to travel only through the border crossing points?

Or perhaps you are just going to add enough crossing points that the AI will always have a nearby place to go through.

That's all. I think the work you're doing is fantastic and can't wait to see it in action!

I was also going to mention a point I made back in the old days of this OSP. It might be a good idea to code in neutral landing zones on each landmass so that invading armies don't have to make land in enemy harbors. I could make some simple scene props to demarcate a safe beach or something.

Or an even cooler idea- enemy armies have to beseige your port from sea and take the town in order to land.

At first it could just be the normal siege, but I imagine using some of ruthven's sea battle code could simulate a naval landing... The question is how to deal with reinforcements for the besieger.
