Windows XP, Vista or 7? (crashing issues)

In your experience, does M&B seem to have less crashing issues on Windows XP, Vista or 7? Do you recommend 32 or 64 bits or whatever?

I'm using Windows 7 64 bits with the latest drivers for my video card and directx, and I'm experiencing many crash issues specially when entering taverns and at some battles, but before contacting the support maybe you have some hints for a "better version of windows for playing"?

I have tried everything already, lowering graphics settings, resolutions, running in compatibility with WinXP SP2, but nothing worked...

Ive never crashed i have windows 7 ultimate 32 bit

maybe try direct x 7 insted of 9 can change it on configuration of warband when u launch it

This should go under technical support.

HANDY DANDY CHECKLIST: (If no, proceed further down the list)
1) Got mods installed? If yes, tried playing on Native?

2) Computer overheating? Common in laptops, mine literally fries for some unknown reason on any game. ANY.

3) Are you sure latest drivers don't have issues? At one point, not sure if it was for MnBW, it was the new driver's fault.

4) Windows 7 64-bit worked perfectly fine IIRC for MnBW. Then again, not sure what version his comp was running. Mooching off other people=You don't know very much about the person's files out of politeness.

5) Are you using Direct X 11? Go back to 9. 9 is nice and stable IMHO.

6) You tried EVERYTHING? Including formatting your computer? Joking, but that's a strong word. Try reinstalling? You didn't say if you did that.

7) I know it isn't nice nor fair of me to ask, but you are VERRRRY sure there is no virus, no files which slipped your notice? No nothing draining your CPU power?

8) Can your computer stand up to running the game, in the first place?

9) As a side note, the lag at SOME battles... Perhance, it was in a forest? That is natural. For the tavern, I suspect your smoke setting is too high.

10) If it didn't work, POST IT IN THE TECH SUPPORT FORUM! HAVE A GOOD DAY!

Note: This handy dandy checklist was typed on the spur of the moment by me. I am VERY likely to forget I typed it and I hope it can fix your problems, because I probably won't be checking back any time soon. But yeah.. Try editing the smoke (See magelord tweaks.. Was it his tweaks? Me sleepy) for taverns. For trees, now. I can't really do much about that. Detestable trees. Main reason I love the wintery snowman mod when I found it, KILL DEM TREESSSS.

Mine used to crash on Vista, setting the game to Dx7 in options fixed that.

Been fine on Win 7 64x though, one of the few games that actually seems to work on it. :P

1 ) Only Diplomacy. I haven't tried Native but I only have this mod, no other mod neither used Tweak MB.

2 ) No, temperature around 55°C or less.

3 ) I'm not... the drivers were directly downloaded from nvidia website, but there MAY be a driver problem IDK.

4 ) Sure... But when I tell Windows 7 to troubleshoot Warband it says that Warband is not compatible and sets to WinXP SP2 compatility... Not sure if it's the default for any program that you tell it to troubleshoot or somehow it "detected" some incompatiblity with Warband, that's why I started the thread at the first place.

5 ) I believe I am, downloaded the latest from Jun/2010. How do I "go back to 9"? Doesn't Warband use 9 by default and then you can set it to 7?

6 and 7 ) It's a brand new installation of Windows. I only installed windows, the drivers for my motherboard and video card, DirectX and M&B. I don't use Windows for anything else, the rest of the tasks I use Linux.

8 ) Sure, Core i5 760 4 Cores, 4GB RAM DDR3, Nvidia GF 9500 GT 1GB DDR2.

9 ) The problem is not lag... The Problem are crashes, specially when entering Tavern.

10 ) I think I will try to lower my DirectX to 7 as it was suggested. If it doesn't work, maybe I reinstall Windows without nvidia drivers. If neither of this work, wish me luck at the tech support... =/

But well thanks so much for your help, and thanks Charlie and MGStewart too. Let's see if I can work this out without contacting tech support...

Just was wondering if M&B is more "stable" at WinXP SP2 than in newer Windows. As I'm only using Windows for games, I could easily downgrade it... ;)
