Now, you are WRONG about Apple. They were doing terribly throughout the 90s. Nobody wanted Macs. They created a brand new model, and it sold okay. Still, they weren't really rolling about in piles of cash. Then, two things happened. The first was the aforementioned iPod. The best of the best. All of a sudden, Apple was making more money. Apple was gaining popularity. This allowed the second thing, Intel CPUs in Macs. And it was only then that people really started buying Macs again. The iPhone has had a similar effect.
