For 64-bit the drivers must be digitally signed, but that's a good thing.
Could you explain that? Would that mean that, for example, that W7 won't accept Omega drivers?

Same as Vista 64. All drivers must be signed (what means tested and validated).
Its a good thing, but you might have troubles getting ancient hardware working on Vista/7 64bits.

Windows 7 x64 still requires driver signing. Well that sucks.

Does ReadyDriver still work?

Driver signing? Windows 7 32x doesn't need that, it warns you it's unsigned but that's it. :\

Wasn't it clear that I was talking about 64-bit?

I can't see why there'd be a difference as far as driver signing is concerned.

I don't know why there's a difference but I can assure you, there is.

The 64-bit versions of Vista require that all device drivers be digitally signed, so that the creator of the driver can be identified.

It can be disabled at boot but I was asking if, in Windows 7, it's still possible to do so (and, ideally, if there is a program available to do it automatically).

There's a prog that let's you override the driver signature. If you like search for Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider. I did not test it, so I take completely no responsibility for what it does or not does. Or whatever

Upgraded my Vista 32bit to 7 32bit just to play Freelancer online. Best decision I ever made

I heard that Vista was just some junk they pushed out to make the mac people stop complaining that they hadn't put out a new OS in a long time, and that vista was a diversion so they could finish Windows 7. I have spoke to 2 beta testers for Windows 7, and they say it is awesome. I might download it.

My brother has the beta and says it's great. I ordered a new pc and it should be here by 6.8. and I'm thinking, is it a good idea to get 7 beta 64bit and use it as an OS until the real deal is out? As far as I know it's supposed to be very stable so the risk is not that big, right?

It isn't in beta anymore, it's in RC. I've been using it for a while without any issues, much better than Vista.

Well beta/rc, for me it's the same thing.. Guess I'll use it then.

I heard the Windows 7 was in development before Vista (and much of Vista's code was taken from the old w7), but then got scrapped in favor of Vista, and now they've revisited it.
