Hi Folks, I am back after nearly one Year being healed from this strange M&B-Disease..... and have now a REAL Problem. Maybe it´s just Win98 but I don´t think so.

Last Week I have buyed the German CD-Rom-Version and did not get the Game to run. (Yeah, payed again, but heck, I haven´t had so much fun with a Game in Years)

It crashes after the Paradox/Taleworlds-Intro Sequence with an General application error. Error code is something like "Ungültige Version in Modul Mount&Blade.exe 167:004daf70(and so on)"

I have deleted all older Versions (last Version was a late 8.9 and it did run)

I THINK I´ve got the right Driver for the Graphics.

I THINK my DX9 is ok.

And I really don´t have clue what could be the Problem.

Following is a Part of my DXDiag-File:

Thanx in advance!

Its probably because of Windows 98... I haven't checked, but can it run on that?

Edit: Ah, sorry, it appears it can. Sorry, hang tight until one of the tech whizzes comes over. Do you meet the requirements?

To answer the question, I THINK Yes.

I am pretty frustrated now because I really don´t know why it doesn´t run.
To make the whole thing worse, I deleted all old Versions and cleared the registry from the old key. And, worser, E-sellerate does not
accept the new key from the CD-Version....  (gives me an invalid key-msg)
The whole thing is very strange. I played M&B from Version 0.69* and buyed, for the first time, Version  0.711 and it did run nearly flawlessly from the start.

There is only one Action I didn´t take: Reinstall Windows. But why? The whole System runs for my normal business perfectly.
Next step would be change to a higher Windows-Version. But my Computer isn´t really ready to run XP....

Have you tried updating to 1.010 or 1.011? It could be you've run into some bug that has since been fixed (there have been two bug fix patches since the retail release). On the other hand, it could be that something has changed and Windows 98 is no longer compatible. It's listed as a compatible OS, but that doesn't mean this version has actually been tested with it.

And honestly, I don't notice a performance difference when playing the newer versions, provided I stick to dx7 and whatnot.

Actually it is Version 1.011. Hm, trying to download the 1.00* now. But I don't think  the Problem is the Version. *'#*§, it would help if I knew it's a specific thing with my OS and my Computer or with the Game....

1. Delete the binkplay.exe in the game folder and see if that sorts it out
2. It looks like there are two sound cards active in Direct X. Try deactivating the one you don't use and see if it helps

Didn't help.

Try setting the game to DX7.

Drivers for the graphics card are old, but I don't know when Nvidia dropped Win 9x support.

Tried that already (was actually one of the  things I tried first!), also tried countless re installations (noticed maybe something of importance here: the installation does not run form the CD-Autorun, you have got to install it manually with the setup.exe), tried the Omega Drivers, tried older NVidia-Drivers (the one I use now the 81.xx is actually certified for win 9.00c), deinstallated DX9 and installed DX7 (nearly crashed the whole System), deleted Binkplayer, tried different Graphics settings, tried my old GEforce 200MX Card, made more room on the Harddisk  etc etc.

I try to run it nearly 12 Days by now and I am getting tired (after all it's only a Game)

I REALLY don't know what I should do ELSE (beneath install a new OS or buy a new Computer)

Again, didn´t help....

Funny thing happened as I asked, in my despair, the I Ching. Got as answer hexagram 46: Ascending / Growing upwards. Who says oracles don´t have humor.
