Will we ever get to use the trebuchets ?

I see trebuchets lying around in quite a few sieges, sometimes there are a couple behind my attacking troops as if they were meant to be used, sometimes they are parked inside castles. I guess they are just meant to represent the fact that the castle wall has now been breached and the attack ramps are ready, but was there ever any intention for us to be able to use siege weapons in this game ?

Short answer: Maybe.

Long answer: Possibly.

Factitious answers aside, IIRC the Peasants Mod made use of working siege engines, (a battering ram) though I may be wrong.

Would I like to see working Trebuchets in game? Hell yes!  However, given the time constraints before the final release of M&B (in September allegedly) I would be rather doubtful of the chances.

Well, judging by the fact that there is now a test scene with a fairly trashed castle, I think it is highly probable that we will get to see siege machines in the final version.

Test scene? Hhere?

In one of the patch versions of M&B, the devs forgot to take out a village icon on the map that said "test scene"

I've also seen quite a few catapults. I hope they are all added later on. In fact, I believe there is a good chance they will. Mirathei used catapults (or trebuchets, I forget) in his Pirates of Calradia Mod and they worked out great with real time damage and what not. If he can do it, I am sure the devs can.

I don't think I would want them in game for the reason that there would no longer be any reason to scale castle walls since You could just destroy them alltogether.

The siege machine in the scene isn't big enough to destroy the entire wall. Plus these should be used just like the siege tower, where your troops have to hold position and wait for the tower to be wheeled in place. With the catapult, you spawn and a few men run over to it and start firing rocks at the walls to break it. Then the men move the ladder into place, all allowing the enemy time to take you down with arrows and bolts.

Siege engines take a lot of skill, manpower, resources and time to build; ladders don't. Catapults and trebutches also take their time making a dent to a well built stone wall, and defenders can always plug holes and cracks where they appear. It's a matter of expediency vs. risk: scaling the walls right away is suicidal, starving out the castle takes ages. Siege engines would offer some middle ground there.

Personally, I doubt it. It's just not the kind of thing the M&B engine is set up for.

If the trebs were implemented there would probably still be a bloodbath at the wall breach just like in MTW2 so the benefit of being able to batter the walls down would still be outweighed by high troop losses at the breach if it was well defended. I would really like to see them in as an option, like someone said they would offer a middle ground between ladders and starving the defenders. They could be made really expensive to buy and only available with a high Engineer skill so that treb spamming at sieges was not too common. They should also seriously slow you down on the map if you are transporting them to the siege site.

I agree. A lot of things would need to be added in order to balance them out. I would like to see how they would work during the siege. I would hope they would act like siege towers where you use them during the actual fight, not before you actually attempt to scale the walls. Trebuchets and even catapults would definitely add to the strategic element of sieging.

yeah that would give an opportunity for the defenders to send out a small raiding party to destroy the siege weapons wich would add another type of battle (one where a target must be achieved before a quick retreat) plus you could do this by commanding a few men to go or doing it yourself and off that suggestion we could expand into saying that if your castle is under siege you should have the option to raid the enemy camp at night or try and sneak a caravan of food in that would help you last longer while presenting the enemy with a possible opening or maby sending a messanger out wich would increase your chance of recieving aid but may give the enemy information if hes caught or you could use a companion for this also qhen you build castle upgrades you should be able to add extra walls or murder holes or catapults of your own or boiling oil or other little nasty things thatll help you live out a siege or if your attacking you should be able to tunnel under a wall and collapse it if your skills high enough and ive strayed off a bit here havnt i....... sorry

Grammar :?:
Some of your ideas were pretty decent, although I highly doubt that they're plausible.
I would love to see some siege weapons (battering rams, catapults, anything). It would just plain rape.
If they do implement battering rams, you should be able to use cavalry in sieges (as would your enemy). You wouldn't be able to scale the walls, and you'd be a bigger target, but then you could rush in and take the courtyard, preventing the enemy from using their catapult (also a good option for people with great riding but crap athletics).

When you run up the ladder/ramp you should see a hole at the top, maybe they used the trebutches to make that hole in the wall?

sorry never been a big fan of punctuation...... im an arse kicker not a spell checker

Battering rams would always be nice. They were included in the Peasants Mod and they worked great! As you said cavalry would be needed during sieges. You mentioned that you wouldn't scale the walls if you were attempting to ram the wall/gatehouse, well what if you could use multiple siege weapons for larger battles?
