I've sunk 236 hours into the game and needless to say, I'm addicted. BUT...

I'm really ready to walk away.

I get it guys... I really do, I'm a project in software development so I know the thankless pain game development can be. However, even by my low standards this game is a mess. I can't seem to get past mid game without serious freezes or brokenness so I end up starting all over again only to have things slow down again and again and again. I'm so tired of it, the bugs are a daily crap shoot and overall, I feel bad for your marketing department who have to keep putting a positive spin on what is essentially an excellent concept, but broken execution.

I'm likely going to take a break and hope that TW will consolidate and figure things out, especially around balancing and game crashing.

you're in software development ? why don't you come and join us in the modding community then?
the game is awesome when you're a modder as its very hard to complain about broken things when your the one breaking it

I hope you don't end up with any bugs.

Are you reporting your crashes/bugs? I've played close to 400 hours and had only few and far between serious problems. Lots of things have been getting fixed so if you're still having problems you need to report them.
I'd like to know what your exact problems are and if you're playing with mods on the beta?

You can always record data using the telemetry build in other to provide them with meaningful data rather than the average "I am having performance issues".

By your background you should know already that things happen under specific conditions and the developer needs to know as much about those conditions as possible in other to replicate and fix the issue.

Man you guys are getting so heavy on him, he's just expressing his opinion. I feel his exact pain. Playthroughs with and with out mods, multiple restarts, and yes the fear is always there. "Will my next click be a crash?"

I honestly just got back into the single player game about a week ago. I took a break from the game after 1.2.1 drove me nuts. Just came back in time to get hooked on 1.3.0, avoided 1.3.1, and boom 1.4.1 has got me occupied. But who's know how long it'll last before I need another break. Probably after a couple crashes and hitting the mid game grind wall a few times.

I haven't gotten a single crash myself in over 150 hours. Of course I don't use any mods myself and always start a new save when a new patch hits so... That probably helps.

For me personally, the vanilla game has been extremely stable. With mods, less so. Are you running mods by any chance?

I think some others have posted some great ideas for when YOU are ready to come back to the game. Until then, take a break, play something else, and come back in a few weeks (or months if needed) to see if things have gotten to where you can enjoy again.
Cheers
