I've also experimented with turning crossbows into rifles. Basically, making them load much slower and deal way more damage, with high velocity to boot. They seem to work fairly well that way. They tend to kill sea pirates (er, outlaws) in one shot, but they'll be much less effective against better opponents, such as native tribes, who will be much faster by default. Bows will still deal plenty of damage since effective armor will be scarce.

Didn't armagan introduced a firearms weapon proficience in the 0.700 version?

Can't you just modify the type of the weapon to use firearms, so that it would check this weapon proficience, insted of crossbow?

Really? I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

Okay, you can activate a firearms proficiency, but there isn't a firearms weapon type. I'll probably have to wait on that.

Repeating guns wer common during this time, but self contained cartridges may or may not have ebeen around depending on the ahistorical nature as prementioned.

The [P]aradox, your map signifies elevation not biome, ironicly it is somewhat true for biome though. the great majority of the land in the circle is flat prarie. Deserts or even semi deaserts will be sparce in the circle, mostly in the OKlahoma panhandle, New Mexico and maybe Wyoming

In the United States there are 4 great concentrations of Natives after they were put in reservations. the northern Arizona- 4-points area, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Alaska. Beforehand they would be spread apart. the problem is msot documented indian settlements are in modern Indian nations.

man that main menu screen looks awsome. Icant wate too play this this is goin to be one of the best mods so far(to me).

Also come on ppl stop beating him up about gloves, places, time, what drit looks like and what the loacle ingun tribes were! if you want to be so anal about every little thing then so be it, but cut him some slack! HES MAKEING IT ON HIS OWN OMG! lol ok ok ill shut up. AND GOOD LUCK [p]aradox!

There'll be repeating guns, single shots, and cartridges as well as at least one muzzle-loader. Devercia, thanks for your input. Natives will be pre-reservation, which may or may not work with the time period - I'm not setting a fixed period, and I'll probably get lots of stuff wrong. Like I said though, I just want to make a cool western setting, not something perfectly historical.

Spartan, I don't mind criticism as long as it helps out

To answer Stonewall382 from before, I use Photoshop CS, which is definitely not free. It's pretty powerful and well worth a purchase if you're into digital art, though.

I whipped up a model for one of the weaker guns (but still a classic!) in the mod.

The Navy Colt will be one of the cheapest guns available. It has middling power and loads VERY slowly, being a cap and ball revolver (after firing, it cannot be loaded on horseback). Later on in the game you'll be able to purchase a Navy Colt conversion, which uses cartridges and loads much faster.

I'm pretty sure thats not were the Arkansas river is Orion

I live 5 miles from it. It runs through Tulsa.

Also most of the large lakes in Oklahoma were created by dams that were not in existance at the time.

Id also suggest baseing it on MI,KS,AR,OK region. you have a good american base (MI) and a Native base (OK.) Becouse Oklahoma is one big Indian reservation, you can have plenty of tribes to choose from.

Climate is a bit strange in this region. Its not uncommon for it to be so dry and hot in summer that the grass dies and tree lose their leaves, only for them both to grow back in fall. Dont be fooled though, the land of said area is very ariable and fertile. Grasses naturally grow waist high and the area of Oklahoma in the picture is forested with deciduos trees and hilly in some places. Just west of the picture is when the ground starts cracking and drying out.

NE Oklahoma, Arkansas and souther Missori look like this

It does run right through Wichita, KS though. I live in Wichita, but south of that... well.. I know it's wrong, but I was just drawing a border where a border should be.

I'd say the color here is a good template: http://www.msichicago.org/exhibit/great_train_story/imgs_tour/great_plains2.jpg

Perfect.

EDIT ---

I'd play this game just for the Single Action Army.

I swear it.

Oh, and a realistic lever action rifle, where cocking the lever doesn't involve twirling the thing. I want actuall COCKING.

Speaking of cocking, what about cold-cocking as a secondary fire sort of thing? I mean, the shield button will be practically useless. The native americans figured out that, no, a shield will NOT block thunderstick! Must fight thunderstick with thunderstick! Must kill white man and steal thunderstick, then use thunderstick to kill more white men!

(That might have sounded increadibly racist, and if it did, I didn't intend for it to be that way.)

I'm working on the Schofield next, but I'll probably do the Peacemaker after that. And yeah, rifles will cock properly. None of that pansy twirling stuff.

Natives will have leather shields, which will protect against arrows to some degree, but mostly they'll rely on superior speed to present a difficult target against gunmen. Until they level up to a gun-carrying class, that is.

I thought of making right-click a sort of iron-sights view, where the gun comes up to your screen and you sight along the barrel.

Do you know about cold cocking? Basically, it's where you bludgeon somebody with your gun, like pistol whipping (i think)

AND REMEMBER, they might have been called six shooters, but unless you wanted to shoot your toe off, you only load 5 rounds in to them.

Coldcock just means knocking someone out. Dunno if hand to hand type stuff like that will be in.

GhostThaxian, because you carried your gun around with the hammer on an empty chamber. Otherwise there's a chance the gun could go off by accident. I'll probably just use six rounds for a loaded gun because putting accidental fires and misfires in isn't likely to happen.

Fine, ruin the fun.

You fire one of my .44 magnums in to your foot and you'll know why you only put 5 rounds in the bastard.

I think these are the guns that'll be in the mod. Carbine versions of rifles can be used from horseback and load faster, although they have less range. If anyone thinks another gun deserves to be in or that one of these is out of place, please let me know.

Rifles:
.52 Sharps rifle (1 round)
.45 Springfield (1 round)
.45 Springfield carbine (1 round)
.50 Spencer carbine (7 rounds)
.44 Winchester (16 rounds)
.44 Winchester carbine (16 rounds)
.44 Henry (15 rounds)

Revolvers:
.36 Navy Colt (6 rounds)
.36 Navy Colt Conversion (6 rounds)
.38 Colt DA Lightning (6 rounds)
.45 S&W Schofield (6 rounds)
.45 Single Action Army (6 rounds)

Shotguns:
Sawed-off Shotgun
12-gauge 1878 Colt Double Barrel
12-gauge Bentley

This looks like it's going to be unbeliveably awesome...

When it comes out I'm going to be one happy panda.

Is it possible to get an ETA? If your not sure no problem I'm just excited.

Annara - I've no idea. It mostly depends on when a model importer becomes available, but firearms support and more modding support will be necessary as well.

Comanche faces. The Comanche wore many colors of face paint, except in war, where only one color suited: black.

wildwest-comancheface1.jpg

Also: right-click will be the quickdraw feature for guns. Shift will hopefully be an ironsights view instead of just a zoom.

If anyone knows how to add new face textures instead of replacing them, care to share? I tried to work it out but ended up crashing M&B
