Very sexy, [P].

I would suggest throwing the Arapho, Cheyenne, and Apache into the mix somewhere as bandits or the like. They were active around the same time period in hostilities.

orion, you win, i know nothing about america  i was just guessing.

Do you think i should make one of the textures into a grassy type texture?

Yeah, but don't make it like... green. Go for more of a yellow/yellow-green-ish color.

Prairie Grass.

I'd say the color here is a good template: http://www.msichicago.org/exhibit/great_train_story/imgs_tour/great_plains2.jpg

I am trying to not be an ass, but why don't you just look at screenshots of GUN?

High cliffs, dusty ground, wooden buildings, long plains, grassy fields...

Shack-towns\Boom-towns are how I see the Wild-West.

I'm pretty sure thats not were the Arkansas river is Orion

I live 5 miles from it. It runs through Tulsa.

Also most of the large lakes in Oklahoma were created by dams that were not in existance at the time.

Id also suggest baseing it on MI,KS,AR,OK region. you have a good american base (MI) and a Native base (OK.) Becouse Oklahoma is one big Indian reservation, you can have plenty of tribes to choose from.

Climate is a bit strange in this region. Its not uncommon for it to be so dry and hot in summer that the grass dies and tree lose their leaves, only for them both to grow back in fall. Dont be fooled though, the land of said area is very ariable and fertile. Grasses naturally grow waist high and the area of Oklahoma in the picture is forested with deciduos trees and hilly in some places. Just west of the picture is when the ground starts cracking and drying out.

NE Oklahoma, Arkansas and souther Missori look like this

Yoshi's right...plains to mountains/valleys to desert...to the west coast (which varies quite a bit).

I intend to use a semi-mythical setting - I'm no expert on the mid-west, living in sunny Canada as I do, so I'm not going to be able to present an exact locale. There'll be plains and grasslands, desert, forests... I'll be watching some spaghetti westerns and flipping through a book or two to help me out. Certainly Sioux territory will be represented (Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas). Crow and Blackfoot areas (Wyoming, Montana) as well. But hey, I just want to set up some cool "cowboys and Indians" battles, not remake history.

For now, I'm going to work on my own, but if I need help, I'll definitely ask for it.

Indeed--it looks great!

Edit: By the way, what program did you use to modify the textures/models/whatever of the armors in the game? And, is the program free (I'm a poor college student  )?

Any program that can modify jpeg or similiar does the trick. You just need a DDS converter to turn them into jpeg or bitmap or what ever. DDS converter can be found free on the internet (not warez).

yeh your right about the gloves the guy looks like a penguin or something lol but yeh maybe if you put a band around teh top of the glove to break it up from the rest of the sleeve taht would be pretty cool

The gloves are only there because I had to change the skin texture to match the darker native skin. Until I work something out with that the dude's gonna wear gloves. Maybe I'll make them white.

This is basically the area I want to work with:

wildwestmap1.jpg

Places you'll be able to visit:

Deadwood
Fort Leavenworth
St. Louis
Bent's Fort
Cheyenne
Fort Laramie

And where it all begins, Dodge City.

Fair enough, it's just a bit wierd that you're wearing gloves 24/7 even though your glove slot is empty and yeah, white or tan gloves would probably be better. Also, good choice of setting. I wonder, though, do the colors on the map signify climate/vegetation or elevation from sea level?

You're not wearing gloves all the time, that's just the texture on leather gloves right now. Without them, the hand texture doesn't match the white guy's face (only the native faces).

I think the colors signify vegetation. Forest and wetlands to the east, plains in the middle, desert in the west.
