i cant ever seem to recruit any lords from any other faction ever

i have good relations with a majority of the lords but none of them can talk since they are "resting" (because standing in a town for 30days prevents you from negotiating)

anyway i finally find a nord lord whom i have 29 relation with that finds King Ragner to be "my liege and nothing more" so i ask if we can discuss further and apparently im "trying his patience" now i lose -1 relation and im down to 28

wth? the dude would probably suck my **** if i asked him but he wont talk about his king -_-

my rtr is 99 honor is 88 and renown is 1069

why cant i recruit anyone? theres no way in hell im making my companions vassels atm since theyre only lvl 17 but it seems impossible to lvl them up any further

edit: i just found another nord lord right after i posted this. same thing but i had 30 relation with him instead
edit2: OK same thing but this guy had 66 relation. impossible i swear

I find that i have to cripple their faction and wait. If they are left with a castle/town or 2 they start getting fed up with their king. Make sure the castles/towns you leave them with are owned by the king himself or a lord you dont want. Defeat lords you want over and over as many times as you can. Every loss is -1 relation with their king and +5 to you.

If they are at peace its true all they do is sit in their castles with 8 other lords so you cant talk to them which is very annoying. I wait till a war starts or i go to war with them myself and they start moving and pick off a few lords where i can.

I have had lords where i have 100 relation with refuse me. Its not just the fact that they like you it mainly depends on 3 things ive found. Relation with their king, if they own any land(much tougher to get them if they own anything even a village), and if your kingdom is stronger than theirs. Your relation as long as its above 20 and your reason for wanting to rule seem to have little to do with it in my experience.

I also have little faith in rtr. Ive had lords join me with 40 rtr and refuse me with 99.

You also my want to try eliminating a faction, wait till those lords start joining other factions and poach them then. They are never loyal to their 2nd/3rd king. The only problem with this is you will provoke multiple factions.

another big thing that helps is if you conquer their whole faction, and release all their lords rather than taking them prisoner. this gives you a nice relation bonus, honor bonus, and I've often had lords whose faction I just destroyed willing to join me at my hall (once I got 3 Khergit lords at once after destroying their faction!!!)



other than that they usually won't join you. if you find any that have lots of controversy they probably wont mind a little more for joining you.

Upload a save game to http://bugs.taleworlds.com/edit_bug.aspx?id=2991 to point out the annoyance of the always weary/resting lords--aka any lord that doesn't have a hall of his own (a castle or a town). With the recent patches, I'm pretty sure they broke something with lords that have only villages or are without fiefs.

First off, 29 relation is hardly high...definitely not high enough for fellatio at any rate...and for many lords, not high enough to get them to talk to you. If the lord was really miffed at his liege, he'd tell you straight out--the fact that you need to push him means his relationship isn't very negative, or he's an honorable lord. In both cases, this makes your job harder.

What is your persuasion? That is crucial, particularly for getting them to talk to you if they don't want to, but also to get them to join. Anything less than 4, I wouldn't bother.

Have you sent your companions on the spy mission to find out which of the lords are angry with Ragnar? They'll need to have a negative relation with him for you to get anywhere...the more negative the better. It might just be that they are happy with Ragnar and how the Nords are doing and you're barking up the wrong tree.

This couldn't be further from the truth. You just need to be strategic with the lords you try to convert. Pick off the one's dissatisfied with their lords and keep sending your companions out every 10 days or so to get the updates on marginal ones. In my experience, the lords of a destroyed faction will go almost anywhere BUT your faction if you are the one to destroy them, regardless of how good your relationship is with the lords.

really? I usually get the most requests/acceptances with the faction im beating the ass out of, or the one i just destroyed. maybe they just knew i was too good

Everytime a lord is defeated, he loses 2 relation with the king. So, yeah, you tend to get more lords from a faction whose armies you're smashing and taking fiefs from.


Honorable lords are the hardest to get, but the most loyal once you've gotten them.
