Why this update is the worst possible thing that can happen to this game.

This update, intentionally or otherwise has completely destroyed the dynamic of napoleonic wars melee.

The majority of the problems with it come back to the stun time associated with a failed overhead or lower stab. Any experienced player who plays the update will immediately realise that the stun time associated with a failed overhead stab exceeds the time required to counter with a down stab. This means that the only way to use an overhead stab successfully is while backpedalling. As people moving towards the opponent with a bayonet are only able to effectively use down stabs, and people backpedalling are able to use overheads, down stabs and kicks, there is no reason to use a bayonet unless you are backpedalling. Unfortunately this means that the bayonet has gone from being the focus of the game to being far less powerful than meleeing with a rifle or cavalry musket.

This also has the side effect of making bayonet melee completely not viable against swords and sabre briquets, with the bayonet being equivalent to a rhodok pike, without a useful overhead attack.

So, the deleterious effects of the new combat system are vast and listed below:

Downstab attack time is less than the stun associated with a blocked overhead stab

Backpedalling is now the only viable tactic.

The bayonet is now one of the weakest melee weapons in the game, worse than that of the russian Opolchenie weapons by a large margin (with the exception of those that are unable to block)

Sabre briquets wielding classes are now far more powerful than non-sabre briquet wielding classes, greatly harming the balance of certain factions such as the british empire.

Bayonet verses bayonet combat is now entirely determined by the first person who decides to follow a backpedaller, attempts an overhead attack, performs a chamberable stab, or thuds, rather than individual ability.

This update must immediately be reverted lest the game be entirely determined by backpedalling and thudding.

My advice is get use to it....Just like how i have to deal with it.Although the horse not stopping in front of a spear or pike is kinda weird now.
 
Totaly agree, I myself got 2.2k hours of gameplay time recorded on warband, NW combat has always been badest of all the mods, but the new patch just made it worse and more, well "Noob" friendly, played a bit of groupfigthing and the only guys that didn't complain about the nerf was people with huge - (minus) KD's

I have already 'gotten used to it', unfortunately this means that you have to not use bayonets, never overhead stab with the bayonet, and always be the one backpedalling. This is a terrible dynamic; just because you can get used to it does not mean that the combat system isn't a massive step back compared to any previous form of MMrussia or napoleonic war combat.

Well i like how things go slow. I can survive longer when outnumber. Although i takes about two bayonet hits to kill a person.Most of the time.

We are suppose to be talking about the patch not MM. Still but does anybody find that the horse doesn't stop anymore make it diffucult to kill cav?

Not realy, most cav men are using ligth / medium horses, the bayonette can do a huge amout of damage on a oncoming cav. The speed bonus damage that the horse can take when getting hit by a bayonette is still enough to 1 hit the horse, Hitting the horse in the head will even do more damage, never had a problem with killing cav in pre-patch, and I don't have a problem now either.

Lol, before there was NO dynamic to napoleonic wars melee, it was simple as **** atleast now you have to engage your brain more.

People who complain must be those that obviously relied on a overhead which was as consistent as taking a piss in the wind am sorry but this update was in the right direction.

If, you can not see that you should be using down stab instead of over head and if you can not block 4 directions effectively, well...

"Backpeddling is the only viable tactic" this proves to me that you do NOT know how to block 4 attack directions and you only get stunned if you get chambered but why post this? Your points scream inexperience to me, as everything you are whining about can be fixed with proper tuning, surely?

You have to remember that this game needs to appeal to a wider audience, Yes it is worse for the more experienced players, but it has allowed newer people and less skilled people to pick this game up much easier and enjoy it a little more. IMO it is well balanced between the use's for experienced people and newbs alike.

No, it isn't well balanced, you have just made it so that there is no reason not to backpedal and spam a single attack over and over. The high levels of stun may help the new player get hits that would have been impossible before, but it means that there is no reason to learn the game. At the very least, mm russia's overhead attack had no stun, and would be far preferable to the overhead attack we have at the moment.

No, you clearly are a terrible player and do not understand anything about the mechanics of the game. In native, as in mmrussia and napoleon, all stabs receive a short stun time after being blocked (not just chambered), which is why stab chambers are often unblockable in the first place, as the attack hits during this stun time. The issue with this patch is that is made the overhead ATTACK (not chamber) stun time greater than the time it takes to perform a single down stab. This means that you can guarantee a hit on absolutely anyone who overhead attacks you by blocking and down stabbing immediately, providing they're close enough.
