Why is there now Trainer?

Am I just blind, because I see no place to train my troops like the training grounds in Warband, or some sort fo training skill? I hate running around training worthless recruits to only have them die even once they upgrade. That's why in Warband I had the training skill on all my characters to I could get my army up to scratch. Now all I can do is grind quests and pray to be able to recruit a single decent soldier. Any thoughts? Or am I missing something?

There is a perk you can get under Leadership that will give XP every day to your troops.
It's available at level 25 leadership.

This ^
Got sad when I saw the skill itself was gone at first, then took a closer look.

Training Leadership isn't very fun when my party never has higher morale than a bunch of alcoholics with a hangover though..

Oh... Thanks, I didn't see that. To think all I had to do was maintain a high enough moral to earn enough XP to unlock that, but I'm too busy feeding my soldiers slop and mudpies.

This is a problem that is made worse by the fact you cannot make your companions level up leadership (or most other non-combat stats for that matter) to also have that perk.

The leadership perk is pretty underwhelming. Each day it gives your low tier units 30 exp, while Vlandia recruits for example need ~500 exp to be upgraded. Due to the way units work in the party, it doesn't give 30 exp to every soldier, but instead to every stack of units, so after ~20 days a single recruit will be upgradable.

I actually like it and think it is good. Your not meant to max tier your troops right away. If you want better troops, join a faction and higher the higher quality ones. Also, expect to lose troops. I mean your fighting in a lot of kill or be killed scenarios. Your troops WILL get killed. it should be expected.

Oh yeah? How's this -- The quest that tells you to train a bunch of loaned villagers. They are not raw recruits, you can't turn in soliders you've already levelled up, and you have about 12 days to do it. Guess what, they drop like flies. The game is not giving players a reliable way to train tier 1 units fast enough and T1 units are literal garbage. And how is having a several companions dedicated to training soldiers like Warband "max tier your troops right away"? You can't, it will still take days; but good training skill effect and lowering the experience required to level them up means less tedium and frustration.

If you want to level your leadership you need to spend influence in order to create a faction army ( or make an army with a companion party which is free btw) that way u level your leadership insanely quickly.

Best way to train troops is to simulate against looters. You can get an elite stack very quickly and rarely lose soldiers.
