Why I Don't Use This Weapon

Everyone has a favorite weapon, but what's your least favorite? Why is it your last weapon of choice?

I don't use lances or any weapon that relies on "couched lance damage."

A great weapon, massive damage and Lord knows I keep getting the lance to practice with when I'm in the arena, but it has a few less attractive features.

*No good sound effects All I get is some text on the left side of the screen saying "Delivered 125 points Couched Lance Damage" otherwise I'm in a silent movie. I'm playing for a visceral feel, a thrill of combat and not for efficient killing. :)

*No good impact animation There should be some difference to lancing someone at 40 miles an hour than to have him fall off his horse like he's drunk.

*Needs room to start runThis is actually my least objection to the lance since you inherently need some space to begin your "run" that just goes with the weapon. What I dislike is that movement will often cause the lance to raise with no hit, and missing is all too easy. This objection can be reduced with practice true, so I listed it last.

In general, I like to mix it up with the enemy and help my troops get XP by knocking their opponents down or I like to support my troops with missile fire. The lance isn't as useful to me in that role as other weapons are.

Rather than debate my choice, what's your least favorite weapon?

Anything thats cracked. Or rusty. Or anything like that. How about a balanced sword of war or a heavy crossbow? Nothing cracked. Or rusty.

i dislike those usueless mauls and sladge hammers. Barbarians can use them, theyre not even fit for RIVER PIRATES.

I LOVE the poleaxe, i dunno why, but i do, too bad it sux on horseback....

I'm going to have to agree with John on all counts, hands down. The lance is a ***** to use.

For the sake of saying something different, I'll put up those retarded little butchering knives and cleavers. What's the point? You can't block, and inorder to use it effectivley, you have to be close. The only time someone is ever that close to you is when your having SEX. An option I'm sad but glad didn't make into the game. =D

1: Double axe. Too big blade. Looks silly.

2: Polehammer. I don't know why, but I never use it.

3: Knives and daggers. Too close for comfort and you can't block.

4: Scythe. Hits with the outer curve of the blade, which usually is fairly blunt.

5:one handed hammers and picks. The picks look a bit too small and light IMO. The hammers hit with the spike, and the bludgeon looks small and freaky.

Sickle, hammer and cudgel. pretty much pointless.

I like the couched lance because it kills stuff, but i think the sound effect should be more than just the 'shink' sound. I suppose one should get carried along a bit after being killed with the lance.

I know a lot of people love them but, for me nothing sucks like a bucket of rocks. Harder to aim than other throwing weapons, little damage, and absolutely no sell value. Polehammer seems kinda worthless with it's high str requirement and low damage (and reach for a polearm) but, I've never used it so I have no credibility here.

I tried to have my priest character use staffs primarily. What a mistake that was...i did 0 damage 4 times in a row to a sea raider. And i agree about the lances, hate them, you would actually do more damage over time with a butchering knife

Different weapons are good for different tasks.

Lances work well in plains, specially against small groups of infantry - if they can halt your charge, you're screwed. Also good against single mounted opponents.

On hilly terrain, or against cavalry, other weapons fare much better.

JohnathanStrange and Godot: twins separated at birth.

In other words, we seem to have nearly identical, yet unusual, approaches to this game. I agree about polearms, but I particularly agree with the following:

I'm using AncientWanker's Mag7 mod and I'd like my entire team to reach level 40 or 50 at roughly the same time. So I need to do everything I can to help them collect XP. This usually means killing enemy horses and firing non-fatal arrows into hostile crotches so that the others can finish them off more easily.

my least favorite weapon... probably the polearms you cant block with. Say you have a shield and a jousting lance... if your shield is busted, we can safely say you're screwed. Right? well if you had a poleaxe, spear, pike, w/e, that wouldn't be the case. You could still block :)

My fav. weapon would definitely be 2 handed axes and swords... nice dmg, good range, and of course... who doesnt like hacking bandits to bits?
