Why does this game run so poorly?

I have

Intel Duo E8400 3 Ghz
4 GB Ram
8800 GTS 512MB Video

I run games like Bioshock, Deadspace, Company of Heros etc at max detail and its smooth as silk.  This game chugs like an old lady in large battles.  I looked at the tweaks and tried them but it just makes the game look even crappier...does anyone else notice this or just me?  Strikes me as odd that other games that look 100 times better run smoother than this one.

Have the latest version too.

Probably due to the large amount of AI processing in the game, large battles with 100 men, more if you use the battle sizer, and each one needs to be processed :)

My stats are lower than yours, but I can run 100 participant battles with ease, even possible with a HDR addon.

Oh there are no problems running it, its just that whenever new enemies/reinforcements arrive I get a few seconds stutter.

Then it's because your computer has to load the new troops arriving.

Another thing you can look at is your system resources .  Check what background services and program's you have running and kill off anything you don't need .  Its a RAM hungry game to be sure .

Same problem dual core 2Ghz, 4GB ram and nvida 8600GS(it's a laptop) and the game runs really really crappy.

It' doesn't make any difference if i raise or lower the settings, it simply lags.

No problem on Tournaments or in the world map, but when there is a battle with a melee, it all became laggy. I tried with all setting to "low" and the "no trees" add-on, but nothing change.

I'm playing native expansion.

Playing with battlesizer on 199 and no graphic mods, my FPS drops A LOT whenever I fight in mountainous or forested areas. Anyone got a solution for this, except turning down to DX7?

Specs,
2.7 GB RAM
2.4 GHz Intel Quad Core Q6600
GTX 260 896MB VRAM

You can try bringing the sliders down for the other graphics settings... but going to DX7 saved me from heartache. I still get the occasional jump when reinforcements are added, but for the most part its smoothed out now.
