Why do people in forums always create new topics?

Really, that makes it very awkward to get a clue about all opinions on one topic. When I look at the Suggestions subforum, it is really hard to keep informed when you don't have the time to read all the threads about a topic that you're interested in - especially when you don't have much time.

Any opinions about that?

All my regards

are you complaining about people not using the search button? Because that's true, with all the new people we get in here, few bother to check if their questions have already been answered.

Thats the magic about forums such as these...they always have been like that, and always will. Because of human natural lazyness.

 It is true, our "search" skill levels are abysmal but our enthusiasm levels remain high.

I predict within days, more converts will arrive to start threads saying "Great Game!" and "How did you hear about M&B?" or "Where's Borcha?" etc.

but it's all in good fun.

It's true, sometimes I don't think the search button exists, and then I look up and i'm all like "omg there it is!"

But that's why i'm here, to keep an eye out for this, then close them, and then get a bunch of death threats (yes, it's happened) Some of you have a pretty good grasp on how to deal with this, simply link the poster to the topic where his question was already answered, and then I can close the thread... and recieve death threats.

Thank you to all who have been doing that btw (the topic linking not the threats on my life)

KILL HIM DAMNIT! He's teh 3v1L! Bad evil moderators, always stealing my precious... my precious topics... he has my precious... EAT HIM, yes we will. Won't we, precious....

Why ?

I think he is referring to me

There's probably more of a balance in between running a Forum like a drill instructor or alternatively leaving a little leeway for new people who were not here with you on Day 1 who feel somewhat overwhelm about where to start looking. As long as either extremes do not get out of hand.

I am a regular at several Forums, including that big one at SimHq.com

All Forums will have some spamming...that's the nature of it, when people in the community interact as though they are having a casual conversation.....but I don't think Forum spamming is much of a problem in all the Forums I have been to. Generally, people are helpful and won't mind answering old questions. One thing is very true however...... nothing kills goodwill faster than iron-fisted insistence on the 'rules'. I have seen 2 promising Forums died out because the old hats there were obsessive with running a tight ship.

Community interaction generally involves impromptu messaging.......so a casual, warm atmosphere will always have an edge over the every-cent-must-be-accounted-for approach.

I don't think hes talking about you at all, the post you started was fine, even tho a lot of the questions you asked were answered, you never the less did a good job to compile all of then into one solid post rather then starting 5 new ones with individual questions. So you're fine, don't worry, you're not under any spot lite. I think this deals more with 'overall' rather then just one person.

However, as the forum grows I can see how older members would be getting a bit tired of reading the same old questions over and over. Despite this fact, they still respond in a helpfull and friendly nature, unless there is a thread thats right above ones own or in the sticky that answers the same question. In a case like that it's the posters fault for simply not investigating the forum better, or basically, being lazy. Even if something like that happens a link is provided to the poster before hid thread is closed. Mostly not even because of the 'duplicate thread' fact, but because leaving it open will lead to a lot of "THIS IS LIKE THE 50TH TIME THIS BEEN SAID!!!" and "OMG NEWB" comments.

Where's Ymira?

What I wanted to say mostly was that it is cumbersome - for newcomers and old hats alike - to browse through 10 pages of search results until you find a thread that discusses the topic you were searching for. On one hand I think that some rules need to be followed quite strictly, because it's easier for EVERYONE then. On the other hand I won't be rude to people who don't, because I got the opinion that politeness is by far the most valuable good in an internet community. Pointless flames just don't bear any usable information.

To be honest, this is say the 3rd or 4th forum in which I wrote some threads, although my internet experience dates back to the mid-90s. What always has and always will bug me is the fact that forums usually contain a large amount of information, some of which is also highly valuable, but it's covered over and over with repeats, pointless off-topic discussions and even more pointless kiddy-like flame posts. To dig through this mess is very awkward, even with a complex search tool.

All regards

Hey guys, I was looking through the game files and found some zombie textures. Does that mean Armagan is going to be adding fantasy elements in the next version?

maybe just a little off topic?

btw maybe make an archive with all the questions that have been copied over and over again. and just remember to structure it so people are able to find what they are looking for.
That way you can move a lot of the "dead" posts and a lot less posts will show up in this forums seach.

I assure you it was on topic. It would probably have made more sense if I had said

BTW I'd like to say that I also don't think off-topic discussions should be a taboo in all threads... but I think at least in the suggestions forum we should try to make armagan keeping an overview as easy as possible. I always try to remember how small the team is that creates this cool game by investing a bunch of work into it. Therefore it seems quite unfair IMO to come into the suggestion forum and being so lazy to state my suggestion with 2 sentences although somebody already created a threat like that. That makes it harder to keep track of the wishes the community has, so I try to avoid that.

Maybe my forum rank won't rise that much, but well, you can't have everything.
