Why can't I get the king to give me a castle

I besiege and take it with my own army, but the council votes to give it to some other lord who already has a ton of castles and cities.

I does not work like in warband anymore, it seems like they prioritize high tier clans and it kinda snowballs from there since they can just spend a lot of influence to get the fiefs.

There's no reason to join a faction if the king won't give you a fief.

Some kings may not coomply at all. See their traits first before kneeling and becooming their vassal.

What clan tier are you?In my last playthrough the king gave me 3 castles even though I didn't even partake in the sieges to take it, I was clan tier 3, I was also married to his daughter and he liked me alot so that must influence how the AI chooses who to give the fief.

Yea, I got a freebie castle I didn't even ask for, because I'm married to Ira and fighting for the Southern Empire.

If you marry the child of one of the pretenders, you honestly don't even have to think about the main quest. The Empire will go to your children by rightful inheritance so who cares about some dead guy's flag? Besides until management of fiefs and kingdoms is actually interesting playing the vassal game is just fine.

Bottom line, if yuou want a fief, either butter up the King, or butter up a powerful noble clan. They'll eventually come throguh for you if you keep voting with them.
