but seriously, we have friend lists? the hell you talking bout?

Ditto that. Didn't know we had one, don't see any point in using one. I can remember who my friends are quite fine.

Check your profile tab. Near the bottom is the 'Edit Buddy List' option. Press it. You will be presented with all the people you have decided to buddy with. Congratulations! You have found the buddy list!

I honestly hardly realized there WAS a buddy list. Okay, I saw it a few times, but I never bothered. Most here are my buddy.

I didn't realise there was one either. What exactly does it do? Or is it pretty much pointless?

but I'm not sure what it does.

It lets you put in names of people so that whenever you happen to glance at it it reaffirms the self-delusion that you're popular and somebody actually gives a damn. And then there's the secondary effect; if, on the off chance that somebody posts a topic about how many people you have on your buddy list, it makes you look cool and popular to other people.

I only ever add people when I want to keep track of whether or not they're online, it has nothing to do with them being "buddies".

AWw.. but then I'm not popular.

I've got just one, and I've added him because he had me.

Well, actually, it shows who is online or not on your buddy list, but okay Llandy!

This, basically. It makes their name bold in basically any list, like "Who's Online". I have the other admins, global moderators, and language moderators in my list so I can more easily see which of the other authoritative figures are online at a given moment.

That might come in handy for Werewolf.

Negotiating forums to discern "buddy" availablity; 2.5 minutes, if done when the backup is in progress. Logging onto IRC: about 4.6 seconds.

Faster technology FTW!

Besides, some of us are set to 'invisible' status because we don't WANT people to see when we're online. Goddamn stalkers.

And the rest of us get to see Admin names in a nice rosy red colour!

Their names are different colors anyways though.  :???:

I use it because I like to send unnecessary amounts of PMs to people, and I need to know when they're online. Or if someone's assisting my mod. (Like Folthrik.) Also, Dudro is never on msn, so I can only ever talk to him on TW. Or the phone, but that's no fun.

Yes, but bold text is much much more noticeable at a glance for moderately small text (to me, at least) than color variations.

EDIT: for a practical example, compare my name to L-L's in the following screencap:

Much easier to spot the bold name quickly, no?
