Who does the music?

I was slaughtering some dark knights today, as I am wont to do, and I suddenly noticed the background music. I really like it, especially because it fits right in to the game without jarring. anyway, I was wondering where it came from.

Loki is a norse god associated with mischief, lies and deceit. Its was Loki who had Baldar (god of light) slain by Hoth (god of night).

Baldar was impervious to weapons and as sport the gods would use him as the target in a sort of darts game. Hoth was blind (god of night/darkness) and couldn't partake in the sport. Loki told Hoth he would guide him so Hoth could play. Instead of handing Hoth a dart, Loki gave him a twig from the only tree that could harm Baldar. Hoth threw the twig with Loki's guidance. It struck Baldar and killed him.

Thus Loki became the god of deciet and was know as Loki the Liarsmith

it was a bit more complicated than that. Hoth is actually an Egyptian god. or, it's a planet from star wars, but Thoth is an Egyptian god (of wisdom). the god who killed Balder was Blind Hoda. you see, all the goall the gods loved Balder, the sun god. he was Odin the Allfather's favored son. Loki, the trickster/fire god and eventual ender of the world, hated him and was jealous of the attention he got. (loki was the first archetype for the Christian Devil)

Balder was so well loved that the gods convenced everything in the world not to harm him. every tree, rock, or plant, spears, swords, Giants, men, etc. Loki hid a holly(?) plant from them, though, so it was the only thing that could still hurt him.

once they werwe convinced Balder couldn't be hurt, the gods amused themselved by throwing stuff at him and watching it bounce harmlessly away. (they don't have to be creative. they're gods.) since Hoda was blind, he couldn't play. then Loki pretended to help Hoda by giving him a holly branch and helping him aim. Baldur was hit, and died, and went to Hel, which was run by Loki's daughter (named hel). baldur stays dead until the world ends, after which hell is killed and he gets to leave.

Brilliant. Outstanding idea on the developers' part, and the liscencing buisness looks fascinating.

I have a few possible applications for that site myself... Thanks very much for the link.

The way I read it, Odin found out that Balder's life was in danger. He told the other gods, and Balder's mother, Frigg, set out for a trip around the world, during which she made everything in the world take an oath never to harm Balder. The gods came up with their little game, but Loki didn't like it, so he took the form of an old crone and asked Frigg what everyone was laughing about. Frigg explained how everything in the world had sworn never to harm Balder. Loki asked if every single thing in the world had truly taken the oath, and Frigg replied that only a single sprig of mistletoe hadn't taken it since it'd been too young to swear. Loki fetched the mistletoe, tricked Höder as you said and guided Höder's hand as he threw the sprig at Balder's heart, killing him. Nobody punished Loki because the gods were on sacred ground, but a whole lot of mourning ensued.

Yes, I agree. I could have sworn I had heard some of it before, and now it seems I have an explanation why. 8)

I know one battle track (ambushed.mp3) is done by Bill Brown, its from an early Jurassic Park game called 'Trespasser', its an insanely fun game for its age and extreme buggyness, but, where else are you gonna beat the crap out of a T-Rex with a baseball bat combined with semi-HL2 style physics? Ambushed was used in Trespasser in several scenes where packs of Raptors attack. Theres a fansite out there where they host the soundtrack for free that I can link you to if you want.

I think I may have heard 'thegreathall.mp3' in 'The Dark Age of Camelot' before I was put off by MMORPGS.

Loki also gave birth to Sleipnir, the eight-legged steed of Odin. [Yes the father was a horse too. Google for the story behind this if you will]. Loki you sick bastard. :x

Great site, but why would you pay US$30 for a 3 minutes song? Seems a bit steep, unless it's because you can then use the music however you want?

Usually you pay something in the upper hundreds to thousands in royalties for a song (as it depends on how often you use it etc) unless you have it composed yourself. The advantage of Royalty-free music is that you.. well you pay once and got the song and don't need to pay any more to use it for commercial purposes.

Yeah, when you buy a commercial CD, you don't actually get to own the rights the music. You are basically being leased it for your ears only. Royalty free music is more expensive, but it's a one off fee (as in no royalties :D) then you can do whatever you want with it. As royalty free, the success of this game will not see the creators of hte music make anymore money.
