Which lance do you prefer?

I currently prefer the great lance because it's loooooong. But of course I haven't used all of them, so I may be wrong. BTW: What else can you use for c******ed damage, apart from lances?

edit:sorry, English isn't my first language.

Great lance is my favourite too.

You can use all 1 handed polearms (1 handed staffs included )
EDIT: Damn you were too fast ;/

I prefer the jousting lance. rather then kill it ko's people. whenever I see a dark rider group fight a prisoner train or caravan I join in to help and knock out as manny dark riders as possible so they are taken prisoner by the people I help, afterwards I attack them and free the Dark knights to join my army

works like a charm.

I recently started using spears and shields on foot for some anticavalry action. They arent that bad against infantry either, the good range of spears is a good thing too. Have you guys tried using a knife? Its insanely quick although it doesnt do that much damage, when used rapidly the enemy hasnt got a chance to retaliate, and a good onehanded weapon skill coupled with powerstrike skills doesnt make it exactly uneffective.

Edit:sorry i just realized my post was a little offtopic.

Why are all these guys calling couched damage crouched damage? It reminds me of those guys who were always looking for a strong rouge character. Oooh watch me crouch, I'm Oscar the Grouch. Actually when I think of damage I'm not thinking about a couch either and I got a D- in english class.

I use both a jousting and a great lance with my cavalier/lancer character, depending on the situation - with a high polearm skill and a fast horse, the only practical difference between them is the type of damage they do (concussive/fatal)

I also had a light cavalry character using the ordinary Lance, which is pretty good although not as long. It could also be reasonably effective as a spear on the ground (unlike the longer ones) although that was before the new speed/damage system implemented in the most recent version.

I always thought the double-sided lance was a pretty odd weapon, only used it a couple of times and didn't like it. Anyone have some experience with it?

Lancer

I don't like the double sided lance either, it is odd and it just doesn't seem practical. A lance should only have one spearhead otherwise you might hurt yourself. Wouldn't that be embarrassing, running your double sided lance through some poor bastards guts but accidentally getting the same weapon through your own ribs.

Yeah, one has to be careful though it's practical value in the real world was, I think, was that if the spearhead was broken off, you still had another one on the opposite side to use. In M&B, we have no broken weapons and no danger of accidentally jabbing our friend behind us.

Maybe it's meant as a foot weapon to have a point anchored in the ground?

I've enever found much use for anything other than great lance and jousting lance. Both those are quite cheap for their power. Combine with a spirited courser and you get pure pwnage.

I'll use great lance when I need to kill em fast such as dark knights. However, later on, with 200+ polearm proficiency, you can KO anyone with a jousting lance and simply prison farm. Tho the cash from prisoners becomes insignificant at that point.

I've never been able to couch a glaive. I'm 80% sure it's a polearm. I've also never been able to swing it on horseback...

It is a polearm, but it's a twohanded one. You can only couch onehanded polearms.

I use the Great Lance.

... rinse and repeat.

Both the Great Lance and Jousting Lance are equally good. If you want prisoners the Jousting Lance will be preferred.

I KO'ed 23 Mountain Bandits with the Jousting Lance in one battle last night.....a large, confused melee involving 50+ Bandits and my 45 strong party of 20 Hired Blades, 7 Swadian Knights, 15 Sharpshooters, Borcha and Marnid. Marnid did pretty well for himself with about 5 bandits and Borcha got 3.

No lances at all, It's too difficult for me, but I haven't used them in battle so far, so I shall give it a try right now...

They are amazingly powerful. They can KO anyone in a single couched hit.

Get used to aiming and use fast horse. Up riding skill a bit helps.

I'm currently mounted on a champion courser (mag 7 mod) and it's fantastic for lancing. It takes a couple of yards for my lance to drop. I managed to total 3 dark knights on one pass!

Problem is slight angle shifts. If you get it wrong, you get stuck on the killed rider's mount. If you just killed one in a horde of charging cav, you'll be stuck in their midst which is not fun.
