I mean "pure" - without bastard sword; and do you use the bastard sword as 1h weapon? Is it good trade-off?

Oh, and yes - besides lances. The AI usually ttries to use the lances from close combat and they are puny.

There are only four swords that can be used one handed :
-nordic sword.
-arming sword.
-sword (called longsword before).
-bastard sword.

And the sword is indeed the best one.

So you wouldn't say that the falchion, scimitar and nomad sabre are swords? Now you're confusing me. :???:

Or did you mean weapons that have the word "sword" in them?

I use a bastard sword as a one-handed weapon, with a shield. What's the disadvantage here compared to using a 'sword' or a bastard sword in 2 hands (obviously, not counting the loss of shield). Apologies if this has already been answered, but it's sometimes hard to find very specific queries in such a huge forum.

And this post can also be my formal request for 'sword' to have its name changed back

That, too. And if you really want to nitpick, remember that the greatsword and sword of war are used one-handedly on horseback.

I think only the animations for them is as 1h sword, but they don't allow shield and they do advance 2h skill.

On the subject of "sword" versus "longsword" I think there was a fairly long thread about that on the suggestions forum page a while ago where players argued over that for days, so whatever it is called someone will be unhappy.

Perhaps "happy sword" is the only viable option?
I would hate that. How about "The Sword That is sometimes known as Longsword and yet is named Sword as well." It would take up some room in the inventory screens though.

It certainly would - especially when chipped

I wonder if they considered "Sword (long)"?

I am actually a little curious about things regarding damage and speed as well. I know this is a little off topic, but I figured while swords were being discussed I would ask. Does the bastard sword suffer a speed penalty when weilded one handed, I know Armagan said that it only does 75% of the damage, but I am more curious about the speed myself.

Oh yeah... you will notice a sharp increase in speed when you drop the shield, you should be a wild wind compared to before.

Mostly the Bastard is slower than what your enemies have when you use it onehanded, but twohanded it is like a lightning.
