Which factions are .. which?

Since the Rhodoks don't seem to like horses, Russian, Iberian, Byzantine, and Gallic influences seem unlikely.

My best bet for an influence is the medieval Flemish, with their pike-armed peasant militias, etc. The only problem is the eastern garb they sometimes wear, which complicates things.

Normans???  Normans were almost synonymous with cavalry.  They gave up the shieldwall on purpose.

And I could see Flemings, but they're missing the goedendags.  If a new version comes out and Rhodoks Sergeants are carrying pole-hammers, I'll jump on board.

The Vaegirs are almost certainly russian, especially considering the new Lamellar their horsemen wear.  Remember, the Verangians may have brought back Byzantine influences, but the Muskovy, Kiev and Novgorod *definately* did.

Maybe the rhodoks should live in a mountainous region much like Switzerland/Austria?

Like some people have said they seem tribal too me.  They don't have horses, good armor, or even good weapons ... just simple spears and crossbows.  Crossbows don't take any skill compared too bows.  They're definitely not just defending themselves, I've noticed they're pretty aggressive so I'm guessing they're supposed too be some kind of primitive tribal faction out for loot and women.

As far as who they resemble in history ... possibly some primitive tribe from the edges the steppes migrating into eastern Germany ... not exactly a steppe tribe with horse archers and all that, but they definitely know how too defend themselves from the cavalry types: an absolute must for a steppe tribe.
Maybe ... just maybe we'll see them get some sort of war wagons or something ... and pavises for the crossbowmen! that would be sweeeeeeet.

The Rhodoks remind me somewhat of Athens plus crossbows.

The Swadians remind me of the French

The Nords of the Vikings

The Veagirs of the Kevian Rus.

The Khergit of the Mongols

Just for information - before some of you stray too far - Tartars and Mongols are two names for the same people.

Rhodoks resemble armies fielded by rich, semi-independent cities. In high and late middle ages, many cities were able to obtain many privilegies from their sovereigns, thus becoming independent on the feudal vassal-liege hierarchy. Some of them ruled themselves, and fielded their own armies - of course, there were no trained knights that belonged to nobility. In Crusader Kings, when you support burghers, they field pikemen and crossbowmen (archers) for you - and that's what Rhodoks resemble. A city militia, not professional soldiers, but reasonably trained and equipped militia ready to defend the prosperity of their city.

Oh, and the Swadians are not french, they are a military unit with no known source.

Rhodoks are for sure african/moorish tribsmen, they use spears and live in the southern desert type areas.

Except for the crossbowmen.

But at least we can be sure that they are, use spears, and live in areas.

So I understand the Nords are norse, like Vikings.

The Khanate seem to resemble Mongols.

The Swadians remind me of what I'd imagine most French, English, etc the more civilized medieval cultures would be

What are the rhodoks?  Vaegirs?  And i think im forgetting one
stop calling these Khergits as Mongols guys
They're Altaic nomads....and thats not only mongols...that includes Turkic(mpstly) Mongols and Tuvas
