Which factions are .. which?

The Rhodoks are indeed an incomplete faction based loosely on the Atlanteans.  Armagan has not yet implemented the Rhodoks' powers of controlling marine creatures and calling down the wrath of Poseidon.

I don't know... The Rhodoks remind me of Scots for some reason. Maybe it's their national dress or maybe because a whole bunch of them have spears and always take down a few of my riders before I can mow them down properly. You know, like that scene in Braveheart.  However, I don't think the Scots were famous for using crossbows...

They're friggin' peasants who are rebelling against the Swadians, and are defending their homelands from Khergit invaders.

I'm thinking a little closer along to these lines:

Swadians: French. Crossbows, heaviest cavalry of the times.
Vaegirs: Heavy cavalry but also longbows, that's the english. (Also matches with the vaegir/swadian cat and dog complex).
Nords: Normans/Scandinavians. VERY heavy infantry, with bows.
Khergit: Cossack / Mongolian. Mounted archers.
Rhodoks: Bit harder to place. The name 'sounds' more eastern, but the reliance on pole arms makes me think of the flemish or swiss, with sergeants as landsknechts.

A natural inclusion would also be the ottoman empire in some form - very early adopters of firearms, which we know Armagan has at least been thinking of.

I also thought of the Swiss with the polearms, though it is probably still incomplete and again, they don't have to match exactly since this is not a purely historical game even if it is heavily influenced by the dark- middle ages European, Asian and middle eastern cultures and technology

Rhodoks: an incomplete faction that was threw on the last minute. Something like "let's see if spearmen can be used as a separate infantry type", and then some xbowmen to give this faction something else to fight with.

Which makes them the SWISS.

The Rhodoks are the Swiss.  Come on, they're the smallest faction, they're in the mountains, they use spears and crossbows, they have no cavalry, they're at war with the French(ish) faction and they kick their ass, how many more hints do you need???

All they need now are war-horns.  The "Cow of Veluca" and the "Bull of Jelkala", anyone?  (a play on the Uri Bull and Unterwalden Cow, two famous Swiss war-horns from the forest cantons)  And make the sergeants use those damn glaves!

I've always viewed the Rhodoks as Spaniards. Damned if I know why, they just seem that way to me. It's why I always call the Swadians heretics when me and my 30 hired blades ride down on them, and feel nothing as I slaughter Khergit farmers in the hundreds.

Under the sea...
Under the sea.
There'll be no accusations,
Just friendly crustaceans -
Under the sea!
Pft, There's a MUCH better theme song.

We call out to the beasts of the sea to come forth and join us, this night is yours!
Because, one day we will all be with you in the black and deep,
One day we will all go into the water.

We reject our earthly fires!
Gone are days of land empires.
Lungs transform to take in water,
Cloaked in scales we swim, and swim on...

We are alive, and we'll metamorph-asize
And we'll sink, as we devolve back to beasts
Our home is down here,
and we've known this for years
We must conquer from the sea,
we're an army with water steeds!

We Rise!
from our depths down below
Release yourselves, drown with me
We will conquer
land with water.

Call me crazy, but I take the factions at face value. Swadians are Swadians, Khergits are Khergits, Rhodoks are Rhodoks.

My favorite answer for the Rhodoks.

My second would be some sort of ancient Greek wannabe's.

Ok, "the Swiss" is my other favorite answer.  Can I do that?

That's right. Armagan said that in the next version the rhodok's spears will be replaced with tridents and their cavalry will ride walruses. Their ranged units will have spearguns and their highest tier units will be mermen. the mountain range to the south will be replaced with another ocean and they will have cities under the sea

Under the sea...
Under the sea.
There'll be no accusations,
Just friendly crustaceans -
Under the sea!

Darling its better
Where it is wetter,
Take it from me!

yeah, how about chinese? chinese infantry is mostly armed with polearms and crossbows may resemble chu-ko-nus?

I’m very little impressed of the Rhodoks spearmen against cavalry myself. Standard battle against Rhodoks, I order my cavalry to follow me, I always hit a flank of the enemy formation, if possible I try to hit from the side so the enemy is blocking the fire for each other. The rest of my army is 10-15 meters behind me. I hit the enemy, they are not able to stop my horse but often manage to stun me so I don’t lance anybody, that don’t matter much because all the spearmen turn around to face me presenting their nice backs to my cavalry. I’m impressed of the Rhodoks sergeants; they can take loads of damage and are the real dangerous unit.

Annoying, aren't they?

I won't order my cavalry to charge until I've got their spearmen engaged with my infantry, or until I and my archers have thinned them out enough that they can't team up on a knight.

Vaegirs remind me of Vikings.
Hehe, yeah the Varangian guard with some mongol influence that's why some guys who live in northern European countries always played Vaegir, when the Nords were put in the game the poor Vaegirs were all but abandoned. I'm thinking of Aryndil here, he is a good guy.

I always think of the Italians for Rhodoks.

mfberg

More than real italians they look a lot like Medieval 2 italians, with their powerful Genovese crossbowmen and that everlasting town militia with their puny spears and leather armors.
