Hey
I recently married Lady Elys, daughter of Count Ryis of Swadia (according to the minstrals, shes quite a catch, go me!).
I had to pay a nice 16k dowry and in return I recieved 9k, however I haven't got it.......
Is this a bug or something that i need to do?

really???? what a rip lol, i could have used some new gear.....
There is no way for us to access said fund is there?

I think the money from the parent also goes to the lady's trust fund.

Would be nice if we had access to some of that money, maybe based on relationship with the lady? I mean, when I realised that those 19k I gave as a dowry went down the drain*, I loaded the game and spent them on better equipment for my companions

*Yes, I realize that marriage is an important political move bla bla bla

hahahaha, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth. Still, i like the idea of the wife, maybe with more updates she might do more for you lol

Yeah, it's definitely pretty steep for a non-recoverable expenditure. The cost is pretty much in line with all the other money sinks in the game, though. Fief improvements, talk about a waste of cash... especially when you're already struggling to make payroll on your garrisons.

yeah i know that feeling, the 16k could have supported my armies for a couple of months, so i could spend my time killing instead of trading lol

The whole point in a Dowry is to safeguard your wife's future in the event you are slain (I know this can't actually happen) Think of it as a Life insurance policy and also an expensive way to buy a Minister who can help you raise your standing within a Kingdom.

I know what dowry is for, I just don't want pay it

I also know that historically, at least in Rome, husbands could get into their wives' funds, get heavily indebted to them and sold to slavery... I would like to have the "get into their wives' funds" without the being indebted and enslaved part

if your a lady do you get a dowry?

I've never gotten married as a woman, but I doubt it. In Warband, dowries are insisted upon by the father (as a means of safeguarding their child) in exchange for them giving their daughters away. As a woman in Warband, your father doesn't seem to give a damn about you (he never writes ), and his permission isn't required for getting married. In short, there's no one you belong to and so no one to insist on a dowry in exchange for your hand.

A dower is what the wife gets incase her husband dies. A dowry is what the groom gets paid by the bride's family. The game makes mention of both, so I demand the money that is rightfully mine.

Could be worse. I was betrothed to a lady of the Nord faction, paid the dowry, and was waiting for the campaign to end so the feast would be triggered. Her father defects to the Swadians before the wedding! OK, we just made peace, so I hunt him down and HE WANTS THE WHOLE DOWRY AGAIN!!  So, like an idiot, I paid it again, and got a wife, but what a waste of good dinars!

You know what would be awesome: a dynasty system something sorta like in Crusader Kings or Rome Deus Vult.

Oh gods yes, unfortunately the time span in M&B Kinda makes it pointless as the political landscape changes to fast really, you could of very well of conquered Calradia with one faction, left it and joined up with a claimant, then rebelled and made yourself king of the entire area, all before your son has even reached puberty.

Bolded is the common usage, and the game mentions both a dower and dowry, giving both a unique price.
