Hi. So basically, im far into the game and im decidin who should i attack and where should i set up "my base". Im thinking about going big, so besiging a town at first, to set my capital. What do you do? Also, i dont like mountain fights, so Rhodoks territory is not an option for me. I fighted some bandits in desert, its too desert-ish. I dont like too much forest battles either. I found, that for me is the best to take Ichamur. Also, they have 4 towns and they are very close each other. Also battle in steppe map is ok, it has some forest, but no big deal. So, what do you do?

I would have said Dhirim because of its position on the map, but you're right. Ichamur and Tulga seem to be well placed too. The problem is, the first town you capture becomes your capital-city. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have it located on the borders of the map.

You r right, it would be better and wiser to go take Tulga at First. Dhirim, i dont like the location, its surrounded by most factions and in my game Dhirim is always heavily attacked. I find Khergit town placement the best.

My capital is mostly located where bandits are not so common. Rivacheg, Ichamur, Tulga, Kudan, Ahmerrad etc. lie close to bandit lairs (Sea Raiders, Tundra Bandits, Steppe bandits, Desert Bandits). My city and surrounding villages wouldn't have a chance to prosper if the vilagers are under constant attack.

I prefer the desert or the steppes because my cavalry and ranged troops won't get hindered by trees or mountains.

You can relocate your capital anytime you wish. You just need silk and tools. I prefer to take Tevarin castle first - it can be approached from only two directions. The same goes for Nelag castle. From Tevarin you have short way to take Praven, which is almost bandit-free area.

You can also wait for favourable situation like so: Nords take Vyincourd castle (in the day 70 or so) which is far away from their territory. You take it away when it has weak garrison, and they have to ride half way across the map to reach you. Rhodoks take Castle Samarra, you take it away. Both situations actually happend when i played, and starting my kingdom far from enemies made it easier to build up my forces in relative peace before moving on to Uxkhal.

The items you need to relocate your capital change (sometimes it's wool cloth, sometimes wool bundles, sometimes linen, etc.), but yes, you can relocate any time you want.

Where you start depends on quite a few factors: the troops you use, the type of fighting you like to do, the terrain you like, etc, as pointed out by other posters.

I've had good luck with taking Narra and starting my kingdom there.  It tends to be a rich city in many games, despite randomization, because its wealth depends more on caravans than on its villages so even if they're raided often, it stays rich.  It's an easy city to siege just in general, helped by the fact that Khergits tend to suck in sieges.  It's usually far enough away from the Steppe Bandit lair for them not to be such a nuisance, and pretty central to northern Calradia, especially if one uses Vaegir, Swadian, Khergit, or Sarranid troops.  Halmar is also nearby, also easy to siege, and also usually rich.

I found it to be easy to expand and take over the Khergit regions, and they're pretty well-protected between two mountain ranges; with only a few passes in between, you can focus more on the open area facing Swadia.  I also preferred open-field fighting to mountain fighting, and was using mostly Vaegir troops, so that factored in, as well.  Expanding to Tulga and controlling the spice trade also helped my economy immensely.

Yeah, controlling Tulga is pretty great.  If you don't have time to go around hawking spice, you can just stockpile them in your keep, on top of whatever storage space you've got in your velvet factory.  Being able to generate several thousand in revenue every time you leave the house is always nice.

However, if you decide to go after the Khergits from the Halmar end, seriously consider taking Unazdaq (sp?) castle and stockpiling trooops there.  It's gotta be one of the easiest castle to take anywhere, espcially with Khergits as the primary defenders.

I usually end up starting with  Narra for these reasons. What's weird though is in my current playthrough, I took Narra and its hinterland for my own before I joined the Sarranid Sultanate. When I married, I had my wife in Narra. Later, I ended up with Veluca and Uxhal. When I rebelled, I expected to keep Narra as my Capital, but my home switched to Veluca, and I also lost Narra's Hinterland (i.e., I had to re-give them to myself as king)

Hmm, that is weird.  Veluca's not bad to start your kingdom in, though: not badly located, and definitely easy to defend with a smaller garrison than you'd need in Narra.  Uxkhal's also a good choice.

Really, most towns have something to recommend them.  I guess the only one I'd definitely advise against is Bariyye.

In my current campaign i started my campaign with Tihr, Hrus and Chalbek castle, in the western nord territory. It's sorrounded by mountains, but you won't be fighting near them, you'll be fighting in the valley near Tihr until you expand into the Vaegirs or Swadians.

I almost always start at Tevarin... although, I tried Bariyye once, conquered half of sarrinad, while most of the time fighting bandits. Pain in the arse, although we had no shortage on trained troops

I always wanted to try expanding out from almerra.

Rich cities that are frequently visited by caravans and where you can export their precious goods easiliy are the kind of cities I'm after. It seems that Narra turns out to become a wealthy city in most of the players' games. Besides, the Steppe Bandits only tend to infest the areas between Tulga and Ichamur.

It's either its strategical position, export goods or its situation during a siege that recommends a city I think. I think most people prefer cities with an unsurmountable defense to prevent the enemy from ever capturing it in the future.

I think no one want a city like Bariyye that's on the far edge of the map and far away from civilization.

I'm fairly new to M&B, but as part of a Vaegir campaign I helped take Wercheg. The Prince likes me so he gave it to me, and even though it is hinterland, I find it isn't so bad.

Easily defensible position, especially after taking the adjascent castle. My kingdom allies are on my flank, and more conquerable land to the south.

I have found tevarin castle to be a good choice due to how far it is from the swads very good if you spam knights and the swads are at war they have no chance.

It is also a long run to the walls so if you have a lot of sharp shooters you can take quite a few of them down.

Last time I started my own faction I started at Jamiche, Almerra and Jelkala. Though Jelkala was my capital

Some good posts there. Well, i've decided to go for Tulga and then later expanding to Narra, Halmar and Ichamur(not exactly in order). Good thing is Khergit towns are among the richest if not the richest, location is ok and there isnt many bandits, EXCEPT area between Tulga and Ichamur, there are a few Steppe bandits, but nothing serious, i reduced a number of them a little in TweakMB, and increased others way way much. And it helps, that i just hate Khergits. Basically, i dont like cavalry at all, for the "player faction" i set Vaegirs, and then with troop editor i removed upgrade to horsemens.

I personally choose Reyvadin:
- good trading routes
- 2 very close linked villages - easy to defend

I never had a problem with their low prosperity.
