Where the hell can one get Grim Fandango nowadays?

This may be a weird question; but I was reading up on Monkey Island on Wikipedia after a friend of mine had talked about it, and the article mensioned another game by LucasArts; Grim Fandango.

I remember a friend of mine having a demo once when I was like eight, nine or ten; so I had/have a relative kind of idea about what it was like. Anyways; every review I've read about the game praises it so much it's crazy and according to Wikipedia, the damn game recieved more awards than any game I've seen or heard of so far.

So where the hell can I find it? I've used uncle Google, searched for "Purchase Grim Fandango", "Download Grim Fandango", "Buy Grim Fandango" and simply "Grim Fandango". But I've not really come up with a trustworthy site that sells the thing. And I'm willing to bet my anal virginity the game can't be purchased on SpaceWorld, to put it that way.

I hope some of you have any info. Amazon.****.you doesn't ship games to stupid little Norway; and Ebay just isn't my... thing.

Please help if you have any info; as until then I'll sit in the dark, write poems regarding pain and the futility of life with Linkin Park booming from the speakers as I cut myself.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure Amazon.co.uk doesn't ship games to Norway? I know they ship to most of Europe after all, and there's this...

Western Europe Delivery Rates

For our purposes, Western Europe includes Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City State (Holy See), Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland and San Marino.

Or is there some special kind of exception for Norway that I've missed somewhere?

Sadly, Play.com doesn't seem to have Grim Fandango though.

I tried ordering Kohan II there once, but I was denied, as they wouldn't "ship to my location". I'm really ancious to get my hands on Grim, but it seems I'm snuffed for options.

I, too, unfortunately missed that gem when it came out (I guess I was just too cheap to buy it new and then eventually forgot). Finally got my hands on it last winter, though...

And couldn't make it run under WinXP. Graphics were bugged and I just couldn't fix it. Guess I should try again once I'm back at my place...

Another adventure game that seriously bugged me... Discworld Noir. Bought it new, my computer back then didn't run it very well, didn't finish it back then (probably couldn't have fully appreciated the story back then anyway), and it won't even install on WinXP. Yay

Noir will install. Just right click the install executable and set to run in compatability mode.

Crashes if you try to save or load though, so you need to do the full game in one sitting.

DW Noir saves just fine for me on XP. Only crashes when you try to load a game from the main menu, but you can get around that by first starting a new game, quickly clicking through all the cutscenes, and then hitting F1 and loading a game from there.

Thanks for the hints with Noir, guys. I'll be sure to give it a shot as soon as I can. Though I'm pretty sure I tried compatibility mode (heck, I tried everything I could find on any forum ), but no harm in trying again.

Norway isn't there but you might be able to find a store that ships to Norway from Sweden or Denmark? I doubt it, but it's possible.

Interesting. I've owned both Grim Fandango and Noir for many years now and they both run just fine on my current XP computer.

Try purchasing it at ebay IB, I'm sure you will find someone willing to ship it to your place if you pay the bill

Awesome adventure game, probably the best and most original one. You should get it!

Or wait til' next year when it becomes abandonware.

(The abandonware thingie IS 10 years, right?)

Legally? No. To have it legally you have to wait 70 years or so. Which in my opinion is utterly idiotic when it comes to software. So frankly, just find some abandonware site that might have it and get it from there if there's no way to buy the game from anywhere.

Actually, last I checked right now the time for any IP to become public domain is over 90 years. Disney was going to lose creative property over Mickey Mouse and lobbied, with the support of some ***** senator, to increase the time.

Yeah I know, pretty pathetic.... damn the Establishment.

If the company is dead and no one owns the software, it's another story.

Actually I have two copies in jewel cases.

If someone gets the rights (or has them), then they will probably push out another jewel case edition. I see lucas arts games in comp usa or fry's every time I go.

I find DOSBox to be very usefull for resolving compatibility issues with old games on XP. I actually don't know the games you're talking about (although I did heard of them), but if they are games meant to run on DOS, then DOSBox should be able to run them just fine.

Yeah, I've been using DOSbox for years and can usually get around compatibility issues, but last winter when I tried, Noir proved troublesome. And yeah, DOSbox usually gets everything to run. Too bad some DOS games (Syndicate Wars, for example) just require too much beef to be handled by my computer under DOSbox.

Thanks anyway
