Where did my heroes go?

I took a castle in an awesome battle but then the enemy came with reinforcements and took it back, I had like 8 or more heroes with me and they are gone after I got free from prison.  Searched 2/3 the map and haven't found a single one of them yet where did they go?

They're in Prison. Same thing happened to me, well I failed a battle, my entire army was+me was then stored in a castle, when I got out I busted them out of the prison. Go to the castle and talk to the prison guard, you will be able to attack him, after killing him enter the prison and talk to all your companions+any lords that are there, then make for the exit.

Go to the taverns and look for "Travellers". They will tell you, for a modest sum of denars, where your companions are.  Sometimes they are waiting in different cities, sometimes they are sitting in a dungeon somewhere rotting away.

If they are in a Dungeon, you can sneak into whatever town they are hiding in, bribe the prison guard, go in, talk to your companion and recruit him once again, without even having to fight him out!
