On probation
Hello,

I know it's still early access and even though the game's been under development for 8 years I accept there are many lacking content and performance issues.

We have only one thing in the game which is singleplayer combat. Seeing AI crowding on ladders instead of climbing, passing through enemies on walls just to go to their defending positions blindly etc. really breaks my heart. Morale calculation and panic state is also killing all the fun for open field battles.

I understand you have the worst multiplayer with random spawns and such, single player is far away from being complete, no perks, no standard bearers, no real diplomacy, not enough in-game items, terrible economy and a braindead AI but the combat is actually quiet fun and I'm trying to find reason to experience the combat which the game offers.

Please either present modding tools that you've shown like 4 years or smth ago to the public in full for modders to fix the game or get your **** together and fix this asap please. Hypetrain is long gone, if you don't act soon you gonna lose everyone.

4 years of pioneering progress in the development of a completely new engine designed from scratch

Uh..... What do you mean it has the same or near-same limitations and issues as its ten year old predecessor, while only slightly improving the visuals, animations and physics?

Welp I am satisfied, I paid $40 and played like 90 hours, but the game should be better than this, much better than this. It is unbalanced, buggy and sometimes boring but it's totally worth that price IMO.

I've got my monies worth and then some.

Obviously the game is still in development and missing a lot of features, but overall I'm satisfied.

The game will be better. In time. For now, we have to wait :smile:

250 hours on the game. Even with all the bugs it's my 3rd playthrough. Every time an other way to play (Vassal / Merchant / King)
Of course it lacks of content but it is worth the money :smile:

2 years ago devs have stated " So far, we are pretty happy with the results. " for AI. I wonder what has changed maybe they tweaked down calculations on decision making to fix performance issues? I am all ok with bugs/lack of content/balance/performance issues etc. but AI is the most crucial part of the singleplayer, this is where the game should shine.

Game is terribly easy at the moment :xf-frown:

Open field battle=
Infantry = shieldwall
Archers=loose formation
Horse archers column formation + charge
Cavalry= follow me

Put archers in front let arrows do the job, according to composition and size of remaining enemy either send in cavalry or infantry for a quick shock to already shaken troops, 10 second melee combat and its ggwp. All the damn time...

Siege is a cluster**** since all other options are buggy AF only reliable option is to go through maingate and because of terrible 0 distance facehugging behaviour no one is able to hit each other so grab a shield, go through the crowd and start hitting enemies that stand in line, waiting for frontmen to die to replace them and strike from their behind. I see NPCs running by me to reach their pathway destination, I mean wtf? Im reloading my crossbow to kill your brother and you are passing by me to run to walls while we've already breached the gate?

This is so repetitive, boring and easy.
I don't understand how taleworlds presented AI 2 years ago as a state of art masterpiece then released this garbage.

You can mix it up with the "all powers combined tactics": select all > F5 :wink:

What also makes it boring is that even huge battles are over in about 2-3 minutes (without mods).

I agree that field battles are fast and are probably much faster than they would be irl, but the only way I could imagine slowing down battles would be to either implement some sort of stamina system or just make all the units attack more slowly. Stamina would be interesting but entirely new and probably buggy asf, and slowing down combat would feel like a slog for the player. Have you ever played Kingdom Come: Deliverance? The combat there is slow and realistic; fighting takes freakin forever. On a game with a scale as massive as M&B I just don't think its reasonable. Regardless, I'm sure someone will be making a mod that does exactly what I just described as soon as modding tools come out.

Regarding what you said about sieges: I agree. The AI pathfinding is sort of ridiculous, and it definitely favors getting to the objective way more than it does engaging the enemy. Same thing happens on field battles in my experience: both AI controlled infantry lines will run straight through each other, basically just switching spots and making the whole battle a big ol mess.

The "realistic battle" mod does a good job in slowing down the combat, I don´t know what the detailed changes are, but it just feels a lot better than native.

Archers also aren´t that strong in the mod but also not useless. Strongly recommended.

And most important, units with shields will keep their shields in front of them even without the shieldwall formation, which makes sense:

units with shields actually use the shields
